Selling Classified Ad Listings???

Hi all

Just wanting a few pointers.

I know there are a hell of a lot of great sales people here and a hell of a lot of excellent cold callers so I hope someone can offer their insight.

Basically I have built a niche classifieds website.

There is only one major competitor and in fact I plan to use his website for my leads.

My website is hand down better then his in terms of features, benefits, ease of use etc etc etc.

His website probably gets 10 times the amount of traffic mine does as his has been around since 2003 and mine is brand spanking new.

I can offer and am currently offering free classifieds just to hook people on email, but I find email is to clunky and slow so i'd rather pick up the phone.

Ive done tele sales before selling online ads via cold calls to the worst possible leads for yellow pages online and so im totally relaxed about it and even a little excited.

My question is, have any of you guys sold classifieds before and what tips could you give me?

I have read a lot of the cold calling and tele sales threads here which are selling website or seo services but my product is an online ad and so I was wondering if it differed much.

Why don't you combine telesales and email marketing together?

Cold call the prospects offering a free listing, get their email address, build a list, build the traffic.

Then once you can honestly say that your directory offers value you can then start selling listings.
