So... Tell me about email deliverability.

I'm a full time "off line" guy. That's what you call it on here. I figured out a way - about 8 months ago - to make a full time living with a computer. I make and sell web sites to local offline businesses, along with the usual SEO/Video/Social marketing stuff on a monthly basis.

I personally despise cold calling, and have found that email works for me. To each his own. No, I don't have a special letter that I send which nets me a 75% close ratio. I have a decent letter that I send, which is customized (i.e., takes time) to each particular potential client.

I use the initial cold email to set up an appointment, and then take it from there. Recently, I have started to realize that I'm not doing it right. Specifically, my mail is getting bounced into a lot of spam folders, and a good bit is bouncing back before it even makes it that far. I'm sending unsolicited emails, but they're certainly not spam in the traditional sense of the word. I'm a fairly savvy guy, and I would read them.

So - what's the solution? I'm assuming some sort of an "autoresponder" type service. Aweber requires double opt in, which doesn't fit the bill. If you guys are looking to send blind emails to potential local clients, how do you do it? I'm just copying and pasting, with adjustments, from my actual email. Is there a better way? How do you assure decent deliverability?

What type of email address are you sending them from? Is it a self hosted email or something like gmail, yahoo or hotmail? If it's the latter, then the first thing I would do is switch to self hosted.

Second thing is to Google and see what the most used SPAM words are at the moment and cross reference with your emails to ensure you have used as few of those as possible.

It's a re-seller account with a big name host - from my actual email and domain for my business.

I've already checked against likely spam words, and I'm clean. It really isn't a spammy email. I think the main problem is that I'm sending 500+ emails per week, but I really don't know.

      Any other thoughts?

What do you offer them in your cold emails? Direct selling normally doesn't work in one letter (from my experience).
I use cold emails to invite people to my free webinar. And only there we can start selling (using more "tools").
I send about 1000 custimized cold emails and get about 120-150 registration to the webinar. I think it is not a bad ratio.

Sorry, I'm not looking for suggestions on how to sell via email. I'm pleasantly surprised at how well what I'm doing is working. I just need a solution to increase my odds of getting the email into potential client inboxes.

Toutapp looks interesting. Are there other similar services? I don't really have much experience with autoresponder type services. I don't think Aweber will fit the bill for what I'm doing right now.

Take a look at toutapp.com (not affiliated in anyway).

I used to use them to flip domain names. I recently
have found a new use for them again.

First two weeks are free. After that like $30 a month.

So you're customizing over 100 emails per day?

Go to mxtoolbox.com and enter your domain and check to make sure your IP isn't on any of their blacklists.

Pretty much. Some days more, some days none. Just depends. The entire email isn't customized though. Call it a template, if you will, with custom pieces.

I'll check to see if its blacklisted. Thanks.
