What do you do to reward yourself after you land a client?

I was just thinking of the importance of linking positive reinforcements with success or certain milestones that we hit in our offline business.

How many of you give yourself some type of reward for landing a new client or getting through the day & following through on doing your prospecting?

Would love to hear what you guys do to reward & celebrate your successes?

Depositing a check in the bank, or running a credit card transaction is reward enough for me . That's all the positive reinforcement I need.

Seriously though, I may have a frosty beer or take the woman to dinner.

I try to make it a habit to toss 1/3 of my earnings into savings for something REALLY nice like a trip or something. That's how I was able to walk into a dealership on my 30th birthday and use my debit card to purchase a BMW 745LI.

This is one of the things I really want to develop as a habit. I have many older cars I want to create a collection from. And doing this kind of plan will help me be able to do it without taking any loans.

I love posts like this because it helps remind me that success is relative and I have so much of the journey still ahead. Sometimes I think we become too satisfied with where we are and slow down on the journey.

Personally, it depends on the kind of deal I'm working. If it's something run of the mill, will maybe take the wifey out for a decent dinner.

However, if it's a big ol' contract, maybe I'll upgrade my computer or take the wife to MAC or Sephora and let her run wild for a bit haha.

Mostly though, I just pat myself on the back and put my head back down and make a living.

I never think about it. Do doctors reward themselves when the patient gets better? Do dentist reward themselves when your braces come off?

I expect to sell. It's what's supposed to happen.

The martini doesn't sound bad though.

Joe Gandolfo, the world's greatest insurance salesman., refused to eat until he made a sale that day. He punished himself when he didn't sell. Maybe he went a little too far, but I completely understand the thinking.

Me? I expect everyone to buy, and get slightly depressed after someone doesn't. I'm the one responsible for sales, not the customer. So I get better at it.

But now I want a martini.

Business wise I love to reinvest and this week i hired a video sales letter guy and a copywriter to redo my sales letter. I always reinvest at least 20% back into my business/marketing.

for personal reward, I just bought these bad boys today. I decided to go for a bike ride everyday whenever I get stressed or whenever I need a break from work. wheeeeeeeeeeee~

Preeti you know I got that form you, right? rewarding myself makes me feel sexy. haha

Claude, I also do love the idea of NOT eating till I close a sale. I think this will take me to another level since I LOVEEEEE EATING! & challenging myself. I really think I'm going to give this a try starting next week.

I reward myself by picking up the phone and calling someone else.

that is not a joke. I learned a long time ago. Never quit for the day
after you make a sale. Keep at it, it puts you in a good frame of mind
and one sale leads to the next ... and the next ... and before you know it,

bamm you sold 10 units that day.

There is no better feeling then getting on that roll, where everyone says yes.
and you will never get a day like that, if you stop and reward your self
    for a sale.

    its a Pavlov thing.

why condition yourself for being less then awesome.
If you reward your self for doing your job, that is all your doing.

But if you reward yourself for having a personal best .. day .. week ... month.
Now your conditioning your self to grow.

In my opinion that is the key to success in everything.

    A martini as the reward.

I also have a martini as a consolation prize when I don't get the sale.

I want to look at both getting the sale and not getting the sale with the same emotion, because it has more to do with the law of averages than banking on getting that sale and feeling great when it happens, lousy when it doesn't. That's a manic depressive way to go through life. And it wouldn't be fair to put a martini through that.

Wow. To be honest, I never (at least that I remember) rewarded myself after a sale...or even a huge string of sales. But my reps never thought like that.
One rep came to me after a phenomenal week. I wrote him a check for over $5,000 for five days of selling. He broke my personal sales record, at the time, and I was cheering him for it. At our sales training, he was feeling his oats and said (in front of the group) "So what do I get as a reward?'

I said "I just wrote you a fat ass check."
He said "Yeah, but what about a bonus!?" (Sales managers know this is a delicate situation)
I said "You got the most valuable thing in business. The absolute knowledge that you can accomplish anything if you don't stand in your own way".

Thank God, he shut up after that, because I was out of bullets.

I haven't heard it that way, but I couldn't have said it better. Going to save that little gem.

Martinis. I had one, once. I loved it so much I vowed I'd never have another.
I told my wife "This must be what crack addicts feel when they do crack the first time". But it's a beautiful thought.

@ kenmichaels I like it brother, use the momentum its easier to surpass objections without being deflated when you just got a sale and its the best time to sell.. exactly how i teach and train.

To answer the question asked. For me personally Yes I reward myself. However my sales closed tend to have a bigger end pay day so its easier for me to stop and reward myself. Positive reinforcement and creating anchors is always a good thing.

However I dont reward myself big typically. I take a simple pleasure and go to a mid day movie.

I just spent the entire weekend bouldering, climbing, hiking with my wife, son, and dogs. Almost every week we head up to the mountain condo, do some skiing or climbing, ride the motorcycle all over the state, camp, go get some sushi, or sit on our nice custom stone patio and relax with some wine or a margarita.

Living well is the best reward.

the reward of winning a client is to then make their business a success (or even more so) , the 'job' is just beginning, the sale is the start, not the end.

Reward yourself when twelve months later 60% of your clients are investing more of their money with your services due to you over delivering, then and only then consider it a success worthy of reward.

    God, what a a jobsworth!! ;-)
