I'm a landscape contractor, my family has been running this business for almost 30 years. Until I took over we had ZERO presence on the net. A couple years ago I built a site myself and did no marketing. This past winter i decided to build an online store to try to sell some of our product along with showing some of the services we offer. From my point of view i'm happy with the way the site looks. Now i need to actually get people to go to it...and for it to show up in the SERP. i think i know what keywords would work. I talked to a few local internet marketing firms but their prices are way over my budget. I'm just looking to show up in serch results in my metro area. Really looking for deriction. What i know about ranking could fit on the back of a postage stamp

Here's my 2 cents. Your free to take it or leave it. If you want to rank there are about a million resources here that will teach you all you want to know and more. If you just want it done set a budget for it and check out some of the warriors in classifieds and wso that offer page one rankings. Read all about them, ask some questions, then start talking to them till you find one that fits your criteria. FYI its probably going to run 100+ a month so you have to figure your ROI and track everything. Hope this helps.

If it were me and I couldn't afford to hire a reputable company/individual, I would manage it myself and outsource individual aspects of the project so I had more control.

I have a friend, also a residential landscaper.

a few years ago he was struggling. I told him screw the nonsense

Just send a email to every local business you can find.

Tell them you drove by and you see they need help,
and your willing to do 2 months at 50% off to prove your self.
    Call me @ 345678

    fast forward to now

He now only does commercial accounts, has several trucks
a bunch of employees and is netting over 300k

    maybe you find that helpful.

Gotta love the direct approach Ken.

So many people are guilty of building complicated plans and schemes.

      Best,

      Pretty much this.
Maybe you make phones calls, send postcards or just hire a crew to blanket an area with nice fliers

NO matter how you go about it there is so much work available for honest, dependable landscapers.

Out of curiosity regarding SEO, how much is your budget and how much were the local guys quoting you.

Let us know what your URL is first. For a site to be promoted, it first should have the potentials. Just because it does look good, it doesn't mean it looks good to search engines too. There are more than 200 factors being looked at when a site gets ranked in search results. I bet a site sure has missed many of these points, if it has been created for few hundred or even for few thousands dollars.

I can probably get you on page one of a Google search multiple times. But you'll need to spend a little money, maybe what a small Yellow Page ad would cost. PM me if interested.

If you can build a site yourself, you could at least do your google+
listing (google local listing) via searching google and youtube for how
to do it properly. Ditto for doing on site SEO for: keyword city, state
Posting some photos and videos is a key to standing out in local search.

Also, partner with/ get known among complementary businesses such as deck builders,
window and siding companies, door companies, home remodel companies, residential real estate investors (especially fix and flippers), real estate agents, home staging companies...

THis is also ideal for the use of of the M3 method taught by Bob Ross. In a nutshell its a relatively easy way to partner with 2 other complementary type businesses on a postcard mailing and get your advertising free.

That should help you out with your budget issues.

To keep things simple and effective, you could add on a WordPress blog and start writing 3 or so posts per week about your products, services and the specifics about landscaping in your area.... You can also show off your great work that you've completed for clients, here, too.

With continued effort publishing to a wordpress blog that is hosted with your main site, you will get the location specific keywords, product keywords and other relevant keyword phrases onto your website... The search engine spiders will find and index the copy and you will start showing up in more and more search engine results pages as time goes on.

We have helped dozens of local businesses expand market share, increase traffic and increase sales by using WordPress and content marketing and it will work for you if you put in the effort and stick with it!

Sorry I guess I should check back more than once a week. This is a 30+ year old company, that doesn't do maintenance. This is sales and installation. We also do more than landscaping.....decks, stonework, patios, fire pits, outside lighting, irrigation, fences...complete exteriors I guess you could say. Flyers are for guys pulling trailers with lawnmowers and Mexicans hanging out the back. The type of clients we have are not going to look at a flyer. I'm in the seat to take over as my father retires. He has zero interest on the internet. I believe there are a lot of out of town contractors that win bids on a lot of new developments that would easily be able to find us online. Local SEO company basically quoted us $4000/month with all the bells and whistles. Best I found with a local firm was $1500/month. All the google local, yelp, yahoo business listings, all done. Done an AdWords campaign for a month. Not really wowed but maybe I didn't give it enough time although that was $500, not sure if it was wasted because its hard to figure out who found us how. I think I'm done and don't have the time to play with this so ideally if I could find someone that could deliver I'd be willing to pay. I see a lot of ads on here that just seem too good to be true. $40 a keyword??? So I pay this one time fee and I'm set? if that were true I have about 30 ready right now...seems like bs

Not trying ti be offensive but since so many people are being layed off they think they can just start a landscaping business over night. It really gets under my skin when these guys with no formal education or license give a customer a quote that would put me at $10 per hour but anyways I'm not hear for that. I'll leave that rant for my next bigots r us meeting. Someone mentioned it equal to the cost of the phone book. Our yellow page ad was $2500 last year for 4 listings so if I had SEO service at that price I'd be tickled pink.

Well anyone CAN start a landscaping biz overnight, would you prefer that they went on welfare?, and since when do you have to have a formal education to cut yards.
Heck you have a formal education yet do not know the difference between hear and here, but that didnt stop you from finding this forum hoping to improve your situation.

But seriously all the things that you are saying is just more reason to get with the program and differentiate yourself from the competition. The good news is that it is unlikely that many of your competitors have a super strong internet presence so with the right help you you will take the company to the next level.

The best of success to you.
