Postcard Printing & Mailing Prices

I'm about to do a 5,000 piece postcard test mailer and I received a quote from a company for $1799 to handle the printing, postage & mailing. Is this reasonable? Btw, the postcards are 5.5x8.5, full color both sides, printed on 14pt card stock and have high gloss UV coating on the non-address side.

That is a heck of a lot cheaper than anything over here in the UK but I let others comment on how it compares in the U.S.

    HI there,

That seems like too good of a deal. Make sure the quote is in writing and includes all you've mentioned above. You could actually make money reselling their service.

    All the best,

    Sasha.

That price looks good if you are willing to share your source I would love a PM of who they are and also how it turns out after you do the mailing.

That is either the best price ever, or....

We have a direct mail subscription service that offers us great pricing on automated postcard mailing. Postcards are $.31 plus postcard stamps which are $.33 rignt now.

    $.64 x 5000 cards = $3200!

Compared to your price, it doesn't seem like that great of a deal anymore... But, I've compared our pricing to other local shops and we are indeed ahead of the curve.

So, you have either found a great deal or an expensive seminar.

EDDM is only $.16 per a card at 6x11 inches which gives a much bigger impression than a normal postcard. Printing costs from PSPrint for 5,000 6x11 inch cards are $.128 per a card, front and back color with a C2S Gloss cover. Or you can use UPrinting for 9x12 UV Coated back and front 9x12 inch cards for $.27 per a card, either ways the total cost is a LOT cheaper. $1,440 for the 6x11 C2S Glossy cards or $2,150 for the 9x12 UV Coated.

That same package you are getting for $1,799 would cost $1,424 from Uprinting but you would have to bundle them yourself.

When you say that you'd have to bundle them yourself, what exactly do you mean? Does that mean you'd have to address each one and pay postage of $.33 each, additional?

Or, is the postage included in your $1424 price?

EDDM is USPS Every Door Direct Mail, they need you to segment the cards into packs of 50 each. That $1424 includes shipping and everything.

I'm pretty sure she missed something in the calculation....that $1424 price is nearly impossible to achieve. I went to Uprinting and my result was $2129.

The only time you can bundle cards yourself is if you are doing EDDM. Other wise to get the best possible bulk discounts you MUST have your cards addressed, be stacked in delivery sequence, and have proper coding, and an "Intelligent barcode"...all of which can only be achieved with certified software and special equipment....and all of the online companies charge additional service fees to do that. Even so it is still worth it because of the extra drop in postage rate.

If it's mailed using EDDM - then it's high.

If to a different type of list - good pricing . . .

$1,300 for bulk mailing, I'm sure they have a permit. So assuming $200-250 for the print which is about right, the raw cost would be $1,500-1,550. Maybe a little less because I'm sure they do their own printing, so lets drop it down to $1,400-1450 and they make $350-400 profit off it.

Now... the question would be, are they providing the list, or are you? Their pricing is pretty good, but the quality of the list is what matters most.

Heres the thing... That deal is way to good to be true! This is my business so I know a thing or two about it.
The postage alone on a 5.5x8.5 postcard is $0.42 each which comes out to $2100 for the postage alone. There is no way they can do it for that price. Their price (I am guessing is for the printing and addressing of the postcards and they will charge extra for the postage.
Assuming that this were all USA delivery, with printing , postage and mailing I would charge you somewhere around $3500 - $4000 for this job assuming that you were providing the mailing list.
If you can get it for that price go for it but be weary and make sure to request a Proof Authorization Mailing Form from them.
    Good luck!

Even with bulk business mailing you are looking at (actual cost) right around $1900 for the postage fees.
