Hi,
Since I am new to offline marketing so you can expect a lot of newbie stuff here but no rubbish I guess

I am looking to start an SMS campaign in Canada but few things are making it difficult for me, so I am pointing them out...

1. How to start SMS Marketing?

2. What is ShortCode and why it's used?

3. Where to get Mobile Phone Numbers Lists?

4. Which companies are good in Canada for SMS Marketing?

I would appreciate any help and input to answer this question...

Regards
Hassan

    1. Depends on what you will be marketing to them.

    2. Short code is 5 or 6 digit phone number for marketing. Using a short code you are sending via a real text where long codes are often sending as email to text. This is just a short answer and the real answer would take a whole thread itself.

    3. In the US that is illegal spam and I assume it is in Canada. So don't get a list. You have to build a list. How to do this is the same as answer 1.

    4. Lime Cellular I believe offers white label for Canada but I am not sure if they are the best there. In the US they are among the best.

Thanks Aaron for such great information...

If we relate SMS Marketing with Cold Calling can you tell me according to experience which one is more beneficial in terms of conversions/leads?

Well cold SMS is illegal (but of course happens) so I am not sure anyone has done a test they have shared. I would guess it would be similar to email but likely a bit less as it would need a very compelling call to action vs. email where you could use a long form sales letter to increase conversions. Unless someone knows you there is not a lot you can do in 160 characters to get them to buy.

      Hi there,

To start you need to choose a niche. It could be dentist, beautician, restaurant etc. Offer your services to a potential client. They might already have a database of their existing customers. In that case you can offer your notification sending services. Well, now it will make sense to offer a mobile site to this business. I think I don't have to explain to you why. At one point you will have to start offering them mobile sites...obviously if you are serious about this mobile marketing opportunity.
OK, if your client doesn't have a list it's actually not that difficult to build. If you want I'll send you a PM how. At this stage you can use sms platforms such as Twilio for example. Again it just depends on what product or services your client is offering you can use AdMobi or similar service to send their ad around. You can choose a very targeted traffic as you can pick what region, town, gender, age etc will see your ad.
That is kind of a starting point for you. It's a bit too long to explain every aspect of mobile marketing in one post but I hope you got the idea.

    1) You'll generally want to either become a White Label Reseller for SMS Mobile Marketing or you can start as an affiliate for a SMS provider.

    2) Shortcodes are the 5 digit phone numbers associated with SMS platforms. For example 69302 or 99000 short code, here is an example of the shortcode in use.

Example: Text TRUMPIA (mobile keyword) to 69302(shortcode)

    3) SMS Marketing is based on OPT-INs only, this may be collected via mobile keywords or online sign up pages.

    4) Search on Google, plenty of great SMS Mobile Marketing providers in this space for both United States and Canada.
