Basic, cheap direct mail material that I use with atleast a 10% response

Just thought I'd share what has been working for me and is my best way to get inbound leads. I get at the bare minimum 1 call/email out of every 10 I send, which isn't bad at all. Just to note, the banquet hall letter had a smaller amount, but I'm pretty sure it's because of the longer copy than the rest.

I use a list that I make myself. These letters were offering SEO so my list was mostly businesses on the bottom of page 1 and page 2-5. These are people who had spent money on websites and some type of SEO so I knew I didn't have to sell them on anything, just prove that I can do what I say.

It was just one page in a regular envelope, hand written address with not return address. In the beginning I put my business card inside but I felt that was a waste so towards the end I left it out, but I didn't see it making a difference in my numbers.

The whole concept of how I wrote these were just explain what I offer simply..more leads which is more money. Some of them I had screenshots of their competitors which is a really good tactic to use because no business owner wants to see that.

But I'm not sure if I missed anything, let me know if you guys have questions and if the pros can chime in and give me their 2 cents, I'd appreciate that as well. I'm happy with 10% response but I'm always down to learn better ways.

Would you mind sharing which one of these 4 samples above convert better for you?

I like these a lot. I do a similar thing where I insert a screenshot of the number of people searching for their business type from the google keyword tool. I keep meaning to get around to split testing this with a screenshot of their competition ranking.

Have you tried sending something more custom towards each business? I've done something similar in the past and had numbers increase significantly when every letter was specific to each business.

The one that works the best is the one with a screenshot of the top sites in the SERPS so it shows their competitors. That one always works better than showing analytic reports for some reason. I honestly expected showing results right there be better if anything.

No, I never tried that. For a specific business that I REALLY want as a client, I follow up with an on-page SEO/website audit. But I've never made the initial letter custom to the business. I'm sure that would work better. In general, the more custom and direct the letter, the better the response. I have been thinking of offering reputation management and if that was the case, I would have each letter be custom with bad reviews found for the specific business.
