Need advice on repositioning my business

Hi Folks,

It's been a while since I posted here but I am hoping for some advice from some of the experts in here.

To date I have positioned myself as a consultant to small business focusing on optimising client's internet strategy. What it basically boiled down to was me analysing their business and strategy and then offering advice on the best way to implement their web strategy. I have found myself doing more and more business process analysis, which then translated into process flows for their integration between their backend office admin systems and their online systems.

I did all of this as part of the web design fee. My latest client I changed the process and I have now charged them for the consulting up front and will then quote them separately on the development of the site and integrations.

The advice I am looking for is how present this offering so that clients know that they will get a full business process analysis of their systems and associated marketing strategy.

I am effectively changing my target market and I am battling with the presentation of this concept or if this concept is even valid.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks
Di

Repositioning can be a tough task, but it sounds like you are very close in what you do, just adding in the ADDED benefit of also offering the back end services for integration.

for me, I have had many a go round with repositioning or adding services that I thought should have a bigger spotlight than current services.

I have always started off by looking at it as a "new" business within a business, a division so to speak.

My making it a division, it allowed me to brand it separately. I even made a separate logo with similar look and feel to my existing logo etc. Even my invoices had my company logo AND my division logo on it (smaller though) to help make the connection for my clients.

I also created another site with the same look and feel, but with the new logo and colors, and tied it into my existing site and vice -versa.

In the end, its all the same company, but by treating it as a "division" I was able to market it on it's own AND as part of my business. So that way I can reach my target market(s) either together or separately.

Not sure if that makes sense or not?? Hopped up on caffeine and Skittles so I tend to ramble on at this time of day....

Rambling or not, that is really great advice. Thank you Keith. I never thought to position it like another division so that I can still target the two different markets.

      Really good idea.

i think it's definitely the same as a strategic plan. you simply need to highlight this in the proposal or in the blueprint. i use blueprints for my business and i use a lock mechanism to illustrate.

"I have found myself doing more and more business process analysis, which then translated into process flows for their integration between their backend office admin

You could offer this as a service and eventually a different brand as suggested by Keith.

You could also offer an internet marketing and backend integration package, of course charging more.

Also, get publicity and position yourself as expert through local print, radio and TV. Make yourself known to the press as someone they can talk to about this stuff.
Perhaps become a weekly or semi-weekly print columnist - as well as blogging.
Make your expertise known to Chambers of Commerce, economic development groups, and business networking groups... just get the word out that you help businesses grow and help them manage and organize that growth.

I need to integrate my hotel IM with the back end. Phone reservations, group reservations, our website and social media, and the online travel agencies such as Trip Advisor, Hotels.com, Booking.com, etc. etc. Data, revenues, expenses/payments, from all these different sources in different formats that needs to end up in one format...
I think I see a need for what you now offer.
