The only strategy you'll need in 2013 for LinkedIn money making!

As requested and Sorry about the delay in making this post, I've been busy.

So in this thread: http://www.warriorforum.com/offline-...ng-linked.html

I was asked to make a thread about my current LinkedIn strategy, which has changed quite a bit this year.

The reason it's changed is that a whole heap of spammers descended upon LinkedIn sometime last year and started to abuse the system. There seemed to be a new LinkedIn WSO out every week last year, so this wasn't too much of a surprise.

So, I stopped getting the results I was getting and decided to switch up and go for a much more personal approach, and the results were very good indeed.

Here is exactly what I do, in a step by step format to make it easy to follow.

1. Identify clients within groups who have a website but no mobile site.

2. I use a mobile mockup creator to quickly create a sharp but simple front page mobile site using their logo and site colours so as to match their branding.

3. I then create a short (5 min) screencast video where I highlight the issue the client currently has and the solution that I've created for them.
(To showcase these things, I use this free mobile site emulator: Springbox | Digital Strategy Agency | Tools)

a. During the video I start by complimenting them on their current website (with their site up on screen)

b. I then go on to show them their current site on the mobile emulator and explain the key areas where this is hurting their business

c. Next, I show them what I've created and why this is so much better for them.

d. Then I pull up Google's mobile playbook to back up some of the stats about how not having a mobile website is hurting their business.

e. Finally, the call to action... I explain that they can claim this mobile website very inexpensively by giving me a call or replying to my message.

4. Send these messages to the clients via group messaging to get right into their inbox without paying anything to LinkedIn.

So this is a very simple process but on LinkedIn it works like gangbusters.

The beauty of it is, you can speak to the business owner directly, by their first name during the video. You get to address them personally and have your message land right in front of them - no gatekeepers in sight.

The result of this strategy was that I was able to start charging on the front end with all clients on LinkedIn instead of wasting time giving things away for free and hoping to recoup something later on.

That did work, and if you look at my other thread, you'll see that I was making money with the screen shot I posted.

But, at the end of the day, it's much better to bring clients into your funnel as paying customer because you waste far less time dealing with the freebie seekers of this world.

The response rate is huge and by and large, the customers who you speak to are absolutely blown away by the video. To them this is high tech and they are immensely grateful you took the time to put it together.

Oftentimes, the customers who contact will tell you "I was already thinking I needed a mobile site, so this came at the right time"... These are the types of customers you want your message in front of, and LinkedIn is the perfect way to do it.

You just have to make sure you separate yourself from the crowd and this is one very powerful way of doing that.

Here is an example of the kind of response you get:

If you have any questions, I'll be happy to answer on this thread but please don't PM me as my inbox is usually full and I don't check it often!

Here is an example video:

You need to be removing his name from at post, if it hasn't already his inbox will be getting spammed up with offers to do it cheaper.

He has a nice website by the way.

            Great results Nick.

A family member did some testing with linkedin but when she would contact business owners with different style messages but usually didn't get a response. She tried to give something of value but the response wasn't good so made it hestant to do to much for them before knowing if they were interested.

But with a response like you are getting I'll have her take another look.

            Hey PV,

brilliant and thanks for sharing in detail. Have to agree with you, I have had some experience with similar strategies on LinkedIn and for anyone who thinks this is spam, here are my main thoughts:

            1.
If you can offer to solve people's problems in a timely, professional way. They want to hear about it. It's normally spam when it's totally pushy and off target

            2.
LinkedIn is excellent for Business 2 Business like this, fairly horrible for impersonal Business 2 Customer.

            3.
Also, using a Pull, not a Push strategy such as this one outlined. So just like you did. It's not buy my stuff, it's here's how to solve a problem I can see, contact me if interested

            4.
If you have a pressing need and someone offers you a solution... you'll normally hear them out if they look half-decent. Backed by the fact that they can immediately check you out on LinkedIN, see what you look like, check your recommendations, job history, school, connections and so on - it builds a high degree of trust and good conversions.

The main issue, which you addressed, is to Target People Correctly,

Personally I receive a lot of off-target messages, which I ignore, but if someone credible offers a solution I need, then for sure I hear them out.

            Great strategy and great work.

To sum it up in my own words

            1. Clearly identify people/businesses with a pressing problem that you can solve (b2b)
            2. Have a personalised, customised approach to them
            3. Use a Pull, not a Push Strategy - provide value, demonstrate expertise
            4. Call to Action
            5. Be proactive and respond to hot leads. Respond personally and get on the phone

            Great stuff.

      I charge £250 / $400

I realise this is cheap but it's a great way to bring clients into my funnel and I then have a structured upsell process where they end up spending a whole lot more with me. (This is something many offliners forget to do)

£250 is also considerably more expensive than "free"

Just looked back, worst conversion was 11%

Thanks, Nick. I was just wondering about what happens after you give them the mobile site. Isn't there quite a complicated process where they have to create a subdomain for the mobile site, upload the mobile files and then use some kind of script to redirect their desktop site to the mobile site? Don't they, as non-techy folks, have problems with that and give you some push-back about it? Thanks.

      Hi There,

Whenever you sell a mobile site to a customer, the onus is on you to make it live for them. This is really simple and involves creating the site on either a subdomain of their own site or a separate .mobi domain then hooking up a redirect.

I always stress to the customer that this could not be simpler and that it will be taken care of without any work on their part.

Remember, this isn't a freebie. They pay $400 minimum for the site.

Recording the video is quite easy once you get the hang of it. I can record the video have it rendered and on Youtube in 15 minutes.

There is a very high response rate so it's worth investing the time.

Brilliant idea! I'm into making mobile apps for small businesses and I think your strategy is mind blowing. If you're already making mobile websites, I'd look into making apps too - nowadays if a business has an app they're 'status' is just boosted... the big companies have this and so far not too many small businesses .I'd tap into this market fast - I know I am and it's going to be very lucrative

Thanks. I've actually had people ask for apps after they watched my video and there definitely is a 'wow' factor with apps but i usually leave that for an upsell.

The thing about offering a mobile site at 400 is that it's a very easy sell once you explain everything to the customer on video. Then, once you impress with a good service you can effortlessly upsell them and cross sell on various other items because you now have their total trust.

Hi there. Yes there are a huge number of marketers in most of the big groups so you have to filter through them to find your prospects.

You can either do this yourself or hire a VA to do it for you.

Another useful tip I've found, and this is generally a pretty good bet, is to go for the smaller groups because they are less travelled and you will be competing with less/no other marketers as most tend to just target the big groups which is silly.

You contact them through the group members section of the group, you can't get to them via their profile without paying. Just locate them in the group, hover your mouse over their name and you'll see the option to message them.

      Hope this helps.

        Search for Minute Mobile Mockups.

It's cheap, effective and very quick. You can create mobile mockups in minutes just by punching in some details and inserting the clients logo.

I think there are some other good avenues to market this, not just LinkedIn. For example, while it is difficult to sell to business that never made any money on Internet it is extremely easy to sell to businesses that are already making money on Internet. Actually, they are greedy for more. And busineses that are already making money on internet are really easy to find. They are advertising on AdWords for Local Business. Just type in "Dentist Beverly Hills" and see who knows where the money is. As well look at who is on the top of organic for local search.

The people who are already making money on the internet are very difficult to sell to. Generally they have someone behind the scenes taking care of their marketing who they are very happy with so good luck trying to prize that person off of their pedestal!

I'm not saying it's impossible to sell to them, nothing is impossible but there is far easier ways to go about prospecting.

LinkedIn prospects are internet savvy, in that they understand the potential of IM but I would say the majority you speak to are still not getting the results they could be, making them easy targets.

I also use this strategy out with LinkedIn with local newspaper advertisers and Yellow Pages advertisers also and it's very powerful.

      Conversion has been between 11% - 30%

It varies with every batch of videos you send out dependent on who you target.

Every business type responds to the right offer, put to them in this format.

This can be used for any niche!

For businesses like Solicitors, Estate Agents and Hair Dressers, of course they need a mobile site.

That being said, there are more than enough restaurants to keep your consulting business busy for the rest of your life if you choose to focus on that as your only niche.

        1. Do you have any samples of mobile websites you have created?

        2. For restaurants, do you upload all the information they have in their original website such as menu, picture gallery, etc to the new mobile version?

        3. What about just using one of those services that create a mobile version in seconds?

Interesting concept, I use LinkedIn for Online Branding and Reputation Management of myself and my services using my Personal and Company Profile.
LinkedIn is a Social Media Network and I have found great success building relationships rather that trying to pitch my services to someone in a group.
My suggestion...would be to position yourself online where people are searching for Mobile Websites. Your closing rate with be much higher ;-)

Run a paid PPC Campaign or Content Marketing Campaign. When a Business Owner searches on Google for a "Mobile Website" you come up in the search results. Then you get targeted business owners that are ready to buy a Mobile Website instead of trying to convince a business owner that they need one. :-)

You said your close rate was 11%-30%, so lets say for arguments sake its 20%.

So by that do you mean for every 10 mobile site mockup/videos you create you would close 2 of them (ie. 20%)

In which case you have spent all that time making ten mobile site mockups/videos to make two sales?

          Is that correct?

And how long does it usually take you to make one mobile site + video entirely? 1 hour ? 2?

Really look forward to your reply....
To create the mockup 5-10 minutes, to shoot the video 5 minutes, to render the video 5 minutes, to send it to the client 5 minutes.

Sometimes it can take longer due to distractions or if the customers logo is a pain to extract and use (sometimes I have to knock up a quick custom logo) but it should never take longer than about 30 minutes for most prospecting packages to go out.

Yeah, overall close rate will be around about the 20% mark over time looking back and keeping it that sweet does involve being on the ball and dealing with enquiries and closing the customers when they show interest.

Seriously? Target "Mobile Website" with PPC... Is that you're big client getting strategy? Because I'm pretty sure that's going to get you absolutely nowhere. I work with a 7 figure PPC marketer so I know a little bit about the subject and from the very sparse details you've given there it seems like you don't know what you're talking about.

Don't get me wrong here, I'm not actually saying that you don't know what you're doing, because at the end of the day, you've barely said anything.

But if you're seriously trying to give some value here you're going to do a heck of a lot better than that, because so far you're just blowing hot air.

          Would love to hear more.

Thanks for the response man, and its impressive how you can get a mockup site, video and the whole thing sent in half an hour.

Also have you ever had any backlash from clients?, as when you search for mobile site builder, or mobile sites or anything related in google dudamobile ect come up everywhere, and they let you build the site there and then on the site and only charge a small monthly fee, and you are charging £400 per mobile site, I think I read above.

And have you had many prospective clients bargaining hard trying to get it for peanuts?

    Look forward to your reply,

And thanks for providing such tremendous value here man.

No problem, I'm happy to answer.

Yeah well, once you've done it a few times you get into a rhythm.

As for the rest of what you're asking, I'll tell you the same as I tell my subscribers who ask these kinds of questions:

Stop looking for reasons why something won't work and just make it happen.

Cheap services like dudamobile have been around for web design for years and yet, clients still pay premium prices to be looked after by an expert.

You should look at the positives and tell yourself that you're going to make it work. Life's not perfect, you will get people who try to bargain your prices down, you will get people who go to dudamobile or whatever new service opens up... They're not your market.

Focus on the clients who value you and work with them exclusively.

** To add to that, every customer I've ever spoken to prior to sending a video has been absolutely delighted that I took the time to record it for them. They're blown away by the whole thing because they've never seen anything like it.

This is not in any way spammy, this is reaching out to a business owner personally with something of value to them, whether they do business with you or not.

Would you equal cheap to bad in respect to DudaMobile?

I personally like that service very much but maybe you know some I don't.

This is an awesome strategy. I'm not in your business, but the personalization is a really great idea. You've got me thinking about how I could apply this to my business. I can easily see how you have people just calling you up with a, "yes, how do i start." Unfortunately, jewelry is not a huge need as most customers perceive it, more of a luxury. Still, maybe if I think long enough, I can come up with something.

Very good idea on doing the video on the FE...yeah, linkedin is very powerful for finding the owners directly. Good insight. Thanks for sharing.

I don't think this is valid anymore. Unless you are a paid member, you can't message members in groups.

Even as a paid member, the number of mailings per month is limited.

I'd like to know the answer to the same.

Mystery777, yes you can. I've been messaging people in my groups for the past few weeks.

Hmmm... maybe I'm missing something. As of now, I'm never able to message people in any type of group, unless they are from my connections. Error message: "You are no longer authorized to message this member".

Researched online, and apparently I'm not the only one, so what's going on? (Seems to be a common issue since Sep 2013 I believe).

Found a workaround though ... includes befriending them normally to add them to my contacts, through personalized invitations... then addressing their websites issues when they accept the invitation. Working good so far.

Still would want to know the reason behind me not being able to directly message group members. It'd make things easier and faster.

This is a great method one that i use myself, you are contacting owners.. plus the fact that each video is made just for them stands out, there is work to be done to get the video together however the returns are huge i have seen 35% of people i message signup for my service it really is a great way to target people.
