Finding greatness in others and impowering people around you

Hello Warriors,

I just joined the War Room and wanted to share a couple of things that might help you. Now, I know it's not necessary about online marketing but I still hope this empowers you to think differently about the people around you in your work place.

I love reading or I should say I love to listen. Thank God for Audiobooks on itunes, right?

And I just listened to Dr. Rebecca Newton's "7 Principles To Inspire Greatness" I learned some pretty cool stuff.

Before I share with you some cool things that I have learned I wanted to tell you a story.

When I was 13 years old I was diagnosed with dyslexia. (I needed to look up how to spell dyslexia, that's how dyslexic I am...

To be honest, when I was in school teachers didn't really know how to deal with a dyslexic kid. So, I got a passing grade even when I didn't think I deserved it. I ended up spending most of my time with teachers, tutors, and parents that wanted to help me along. Even when some parents didn't know the square root of five they still spent the time trying and learning with me.

For the people that helped me...
Do you think I cared about what clothes they wore? Do you think I cared if they graduated collage? Or if they went to collage?

Or do you think I was just grateful that someone would take time to help me?

Everyone has something to bring to the table no mater what they look like and or what they have done in the past. I pride myself in seeing value in others. And I always look at people's hearts first.

I always told myself when I have a multimillion dollar company I would hire waiters/ waitresses and janitors to do my costumer serves work. Why? I want to be able to say, "My top salesman, Pete over there was a waiter across the street. And now he makes 30 times as much here. He always had a servants heart and I think that's perfect for costumer serves work."

Side Note: Because of the people in the past that helped me along and because of the value I see in others, I will never be a three piece suit type of guy. Value is measured in the heart, not the clothing on your back.

That's why I wanted to read this book to get better insights. Here are some key pointers that I have learned that I would love to share with you. Next time you're working with a team think of these things. Because somewhere between when you were a kid looking into people's eyes without question to adulthood we somehow lose are gratefulness for the people around us.

Be mindful that I will had to paraphrase a lot of this. I don't feel like stepping on any copyright laws at this time

A few intro points to understand about the book:

→ people are motivated by different things.

→ it's typical to think that people are motivated by the same things that you are. But it's important to learn what drives other people, in a personal and professional way.

→ when motivating others it's also important to get people on the same page. Bringing people into the bigger picture and all the dirty little details of what your team will be working on.

→ people want to be relational and it will help their personal development at work.

Principle number one → relational learning on the job

→ if people are experiencing personal skill development and relational job learning they're more satisfied at work.

Principle number two → emotions play a big role (I know, who wants to talk about their "feelings")

→ assigning work that is inspiring and interesting provokes pleasure in the work place.

→ making a work environment pleasant and energizing will help motivate others.

Principle number three → Self identity is a powerful driver

→ people typical have a positive sense of self. When people are in an environment where they can maintain that positive sense of self people tend to be more motivated.

→ for example when communicating with other workers it's important to say "we can" instead of "you can do this and I will do that." Having a collaborative identity and bringing people into the team will be very empowering for others.

Principle number four → people want to help others

→ looking at your work as positivity effective others is a very useful prospective. For example saying how your business is changing the world will give a sense of a bigger picture.

Principle number five → build a reward system for individuals and for your team (enough said.)

Principle number six → put motivation in and demotivation out

→ a demotivator is conflicted around the work place and a motivator is empowering others.

Principle number seven → don't forget to motivate yourself

→ as a leader or a team member it can be stressful, just remember that everyone is working with you NOT against you.
I found that this book and teaching goes along with what Guy Kawasaki has said in a past interview about enchanting future employees. What he said was, "first offer your new employes a chance to learn a new skill that they will take with them forever, then offer a chance to change the world, and promise never to micro mange them."

To end I would like to add an eighth principle → always see greatness in others no matter where you are. Work or not greatness is around you, you just have to open your eyes.

One you forgive me for any missed spelled words.

Two you can look at your team members a little differently next time your together.

      It's obvious he is a giver so let the man give. If his intentions are otherwise they will be known in due time.
