Lapel mic for iphone under $50?

Anybody have a recommendation for a lapel mic for the iphone?

Hoping to keep it under $50.

Also a longer cord would be great.

Thanks!

It is, and I saw that in a video, but I am looking for something more professional. Thanks!

I researched this afternoon but didn't come up with anything stand-out.

I think what you're looking for is a "lavaliere" microphone. Wireless, can feed to an iphone or video camera. What most folks think of when they see a mic pack on TV. Can be had for $50, but you're talking bare bones quality. Depending on what it would be used for, and whether or not it's a one-time-thing, you might consider bumping your price range up to $100 or so. Go to Amazon and search for "lavaliere", and then read the reviews. That is, unless I'm missing what you want.

Seen this brand, lavalier, but there are several of them. Again, I did my research but got snowed under by too many choices and every one of them with good reviews, bad reviews, needs battery, or it being unclear how well the mic works with the iphone (mono only?). So you are definitely on the right track...I was hoping for someone to have actually used one and be able to share their experience. Thanks!

Hey Jason. Not sure exactly what you are trying to configure, but I do own and use a lapel mic for some of my recordings. For example, all of the audio for this video was recorded with a Sony lapel mic Amazon.com: Sony ECM-CS10 Tie-Clip-Style...Amazon.com: Sony ECM-CS10 Tie-Clip-Style...

It's pretty good quality, and they range up to about $100. Check the SONY store in your area for them. It plugs directly into your mic jack, so you can add an extension from Radio Shack.

Given that I am not clear on how you want to make your recordings, you may also want to consider the H2 Zoom mic. I say this because not only does it have awesome quality, you can record audio right into the mic, independent of any device or computer. It has storage capacity and runs on batteries. You just have to place it somewhere near you.

Once you have recorded your video, you just import the audio track into your editing program and line it up with your visuals. This results in a very high quality audio track.

You can also use the H2 for recording podcasts, sales calls or use it as an interview mic (in fact you will see the H2 being used in live press conferences in the hands of reporters).

Also, since you do sell video products, there is absolutely no reason to be limiting your budget on such a mic either. You will probably save yourself a lot of grief (and buyer's remorse) by looking at the $150-$250 range right now.

I couldn't remember the name of the mic in my previous post, but the lavalier mic is what came with the Telex wireless setup.

One problem I did find in the beginning was the person I was interviewing holding the mic instead of clipping it to their shirt. About half way through, he started fiddling with the mic absentmindedly. That came through loud and clear and pretty much ruined the recording.

We also use a Telex wireless microphone at the Bingo hall where I maintain the equipment and occasionally call, and it has worked flawlessly for the past 10+ years.

Unless you really need professional equipment, you are probably better off finding a name brand and going for it... unless time is not of the essence and you enjoy research.

I'm still a neophyte with respect to fairly serious live video, but I think "lavaliere" or something like that, is a type of microphone - not a brand. Basically a lapel sort of deal where you clip it on and have a little battery pack with it. I've got a couple of cheap-o's that I've used, but have nothing incredibly good or bad to say about either.

I picked up two used Telex wireless microphones with receivers for about $80.00 or so a while back on eBay. I needed to be able to communicate at a distance while doing video of some demonstrations, and these worked perfectly.

Coming soon to your nearest Youtube channel .

PS - There were also some cheaper brands, but they weren't what I wanted.
