...made me wonder if any one here sells to the government. They have the cash. Is anyone successfully targeting city, state, provincial or federal governments for internet marketing services? I did a quick search on the forum but didn't see any threads on it.

While it is very daunting to get government contracts, it's also very lucrative. The people that I knew who sold to the government, they sold physical goods not services.

Small towns can be easy, but there is still a committee (I'm on such a committee) to get approval from. Not a one call close, and it helps to have a local connection. There may be insurance requirements. My town admin required the website vendor to have liability insurance

A friend of mine contracted with larger cities (Denver, CO for example) for website design. And it's a more formal bid and presentation process. I think she may have had to get on an approved vendor list. She was working from her office, but they still required her to have worker's comp insurance in case a ladder fell on her head when she came to a meeting.

State gov't is probably similar to larger city government.

Do not sell your soul to the devil. Help other businesses who are working in the arena of voluntary, mutually beneficial exchange. The government has no resources of its own. Everything it has is stolen from the productive classes. If you accept money from these parasites, you are, in effect, an accessory to theft.
