Anybody here ever hire a filipino telemarketer?

I'm seriously looking into hiring a filipino telemarketer to outsource some routine sales/marketing calls for me.

Does anyone here have any experience with this thru odesk or some other platform? I'd be interested in any tips or advice... thanks in advance.

We hire cold callers in India and pay them per lead.
The hot leads are then passed on to local, professional salesmen.

It works, and is widely used in sales. You really have to make sure they are trained (Preferably by your best salesman) otherwise they will sound so robotic and unprofessional, they won't get any leads.

Hope that helps! Pm me if you have any questions.

Here are just a few tips off the top of my head:

Obviously, check out their voice on a LIVE call before you hire them. They often have recordings they use as their "resume", but like most resumes they are only sharing their best work. Double check what they sound like in real time.

Set minimums and stick to it like a captain in the british navy (or whatever thing makes you think of being strict). For example, we used to require 1 appointment an hour. If they couldn't hack that after two weeks, we dumped them. If we were going to be running a charity organization, things might have been different, but its a business.

Lastly, Pinoys are super awesome. Treat them well and you will have a SUPER loyal and hardworking employee. Treat them poorly and they will disappear on you.
May I ask what has worked for you in terms of providers, agencies, etc. Anybody you'd be willing to recommend?

My experience that been that Americans are far and away better appointment setters than filipinos. The filipinos I've used lacked the ability to use spontaneous casual dialogue and American mental frames to communicate.

Majority of the call center agents you talk over the phone are either from India or from the Philippines. Although they are not native English speakers which you can obviously hear in their voices and accents, they are also hardworking people. Some had bad experiences with them but mostly, they can be trusted. You just have to provide the time to train them. At Odesk, there are many Filipino telemarketers. Carefully read their profile as well as comments from their previous employers. I agree and it's really a great idea that you hold interviews through Skype so you can hear them speak. You can ask them to read a script so you'll have an idea on how they deliver and if their pronunciations are fine.

    Are you still looking?
If you're still in search for a telemarketer maybe you can consider this person and try her for a trial work. https://www.staff.com/profile/e0c05c...9e8d2eb7f50769

That's a public profile shared to me, so take some time to listen to her as I think she has the qualities that you're looking for someone from the Philippines. Or might as well contact her directly through the site so you can be sure she's still available for work.

I always want to ask this....

How much cheaper would it be to hire a non-American?

Then are you willing to test both? Because personally I believe the American will be cheaper per appointment even though they will be more per hour. But I have not personally tested this so would love to hear from someone who has.

Just seems like everyone reads Tim Ferris (big fan) and takes him 100 literally vs. thinking outside the box for outsourcing.

Thanks for posting this bud. You just opened my eyes to something that I have been closing them to. In a few months I will need Appointment setters. I never thought about you statement that I quoted. And there is a flip side to that. It is:

the American will make you more money per call even though they will be more per hour.
Meaning, you may junk up your some solid leads by having a foreign person call. It blows my mind some of the subtle jewels that we pass around to each other on this site.

I have tried this in the past and was not thrilled by results. Part of that was my fault.

If I were to try this again today I would make the TM's job mostly one of qualifying very quickly , in or out. I would not make them try to "sell" or handle multiple rebuttals.

In other words, design a script that can determine if people want more info and then depending in your scale, either follow up yourself or with american speaking tms.
