Rent a Site - Keyword Help - Thanks In Advance!

Hey guys,

I am looking into starting my very first site which i intend to rent out. Now I have a few keywords which look promosing but would like your opinions on one of them.

Now obviously i'm not going to give away the term but to give you an idea it is along the lines of "price of garden gate glasgow" the term has 17 million results without quotes, however it only has 340 when you keep clicking the pages on google. And it has only 5 results in quotes. Furthermore it is the first result on the google suggest dropdown list.

Google keyword tool indicates 25 exact match searches per month and the average cost for the service is £2000.

My question is... Would a term like this be easy to rank for and from your experience, would a business generating £2000 per job be willing to rent a site targetting a term like this.

The way i see it, since it is my first site i will be renting it cheaper to get a case study for future clients. Maybe £100 per month, they'd only have to make one sale per year to profit fron it.

By the way, i will be registering an exact match domain and filling the first page of google with classifieds and videos like in google love

  • It wouldn't be hard to go for, but the only question is profitability. And unless you find someone who's already tested that niche, you kind of just have to test it for yourself.

Looks promising though, just try it!

    Hey John,

Thanks for popping by, yeah i might just give it a go. It will only cost me about £20 to set it all up including domain and phone service. I did notice a few adwords ads in the right sidebar when performing the search

Usually when you see others paying to be seen for that keyword, then it should be profitable for you as well. The best part is that your going to be doing it organically and eventually reselling your work to the businesses that actually need the leads. Allows you to hedge off a decent amount of profits monthly and they don't have to know how easy it was for you

      Best wishes!

Doing site rentals can be a bit of a chicken and the egg game.

If you have a potential client that needs traffic(chicken), then it is easier to put up a site to rent it out (egg).

If you do not have the chicken, it is not easy to start with only the egg....for various reasons...especially in a niche that is not tested or vetted...

The one thing that stands out about your keyword is the term "price", which might indicate 25 potential buyer searches a month OR it could indicate 20+ price shoppers with very few actually buyers and if even if you are #1 in Google, that does not mean you would have the 1-5 buyers visit your property and if they do, none may convert to a call....

What I would for something like this is to have a general house improvement website(a testing website), which I can easily sub-domain or add a page to about this keyword term. Then fire up adwords and test out the traffic for a month to see how the traffic reacts. If it is favorable, then you can look at creating the standalone site, rank it and rent it....

I'm guessing that "price of garden gate glasgow" is people that are looking into possibly just buying a gate for their garden, or is that also including installation?

You are saying £2000 is the cost of this service? Or is that not the real service you were talking about that costs £2000 (perhaps it would be helpful to give us the REAL KW you are going after? I don't think anyone on this subforum will run over and start trying to compete with you)

Anyway, a kw like that isn't even necessarily a buyers KW, or an appointment getting KW. If there are NOT already people advertising under your KW, you will need to do a lot of extra convincing in order to get them on-board with you.

Quick role-play, with me being the business owner you are trying to pitch and assuming you have already gotten the site to the top of Google for your given KW.

If I am the business owner, here is what I say to you:

"Ok, so you want me to rent your glasgow gate website. I am not currently advertising with adwords under the term 'glasgow gate pricing'. That is not a keyword that has worked for me in the past to convert searchers into buyers.

Do you have newer information? How is that KW converting for you on your website? Can you give me some statistics?

Hmmm... you say your KW is getting searched 25 times per month? With a number one ranking, doesn't that mean I would be getting about 10 visitos per month to the site?

And with a really good buyers KW (which I dont necessarily think Glasgow gate pricing is), I am converting about 4%, so that means I could expect, perhaps 1 new client using your website every 6 months or so?

And selling my Glasgow Gates, my profit per sale is about $400. So... I could, in the very best of circumstances, expect to make $70 or so monthly from your site (as long as the rankings dont drop) and how much was it again that you wanted to lease the site out to me at?"

These are the types of questions you will get from saavy business owners. I know, because I have tried the method before.

Best to be prepared ahead of time with good answers.

      Best of luck,
      Alex

    Hey guys,

Thanks for your thoughts and comments, i will have a re think and look for some more higher searched buyer orientated keywords. Rather start out by giving myself the best chance possible of succeeding from the get go.

As far as buying keywords would you say something along the lines of window cleaning service + city would be better to target?

    Regards,

    Stephen

{Window CLeaning + City } is certainly a KW with a lot more buyer intent.

You would probably do very well getting a site to rank #1 in Google for that KW and then selling off the leads to local window washing contractors.

    As mentioned, profitability is important.

Google the term. Take a look at the ads. Note whose ads they are. Write that down. Do it again and again for a couple of weeks. If the same advertisers keep showing up again and again, you would not be unreasonable if you assumed they do it (keep paying) because they're getting leads/sales.

Right click on the top competitors, look at the page info, are they targeting the keyword in the url, in the title? (You could use something like market samurai or traffic travis, if you don't trust yourself to notice such things.) Also, is the homepage that's showing or an inner page... If you use the keyword in the domain name, you have a built-in advantage over keyword in inner page url.

If the top 3 don't target the keyword, it's easy. If they do, it could be still easy, but you'd have to look into their off page optimization. majesticseo.com is good for that.

Do they get backlinks from crappy sites or have a lot of odd/irrelevant/blank anchor text? Do they have useful words as anchor text? Do they have lots of them? Are they coming from pages with high pr?

If they don't target the keyword in the right places
