How I increased my email response rates 2-400%!

Hi guys,

I don't post very often as I didn't have much to post about, but now I've started my business properly I've got something I'd like to share. I sell offline services - mobile sites etc, and prospect by email as well as other methods.

Now I'm no copy writer, nor a good written salesman, so I simply have 'Inquiry' as the subject line of my emails, and a 'personal'-sounding email written.

But I found a way which (I may be wrong) doesn't seem to be mentioned here on the offline forum that ALWAYS doubles-quadruples the responses I get, and it's absurdly simple.

I email all the people who didn't reply again, about 4 working days later, a shorter and slightly more salesey email with less of the personal introduction and more of the this will benefit you/your competition are doing it.

Now I'm sure a lot of you guys are already doing this, but to whoever isn't, DO IT! It makes your message seem less like it was thrown out by a random marketing machine (several replies have got back to me starting with 'thanks for your email, I assumed the first one was just a random marketing blast').

If anyone has anything to add to this - perhaps what to include in a follow up message to increase conversions/the subject line (I haven't tested enough to judge the effectiveness of different subject lines), that would be great.

Guy

    Hi Guy!

Nice idea, great that it really works. I can share some more tips with you:

    - follow a consistent e-mail sending schedule

    - do some split-testing of your subject line

    - keep the right balance between promotion and useful content

    - experiment with special offers for subscribers

    Thanks bro!
That's a Pretty cool idea and I am definitely going to give it a try..
I use a lot of informative video squeeze pages and post them to a bunch of online classifieds websites.
I have been doing this for years and on avg it brings in anywhere between 2 to 7 new clients a month on autopilot once its set up.
But I will incorporate what you mentioned into my autoresponder and give it a test.
    Thanks for the share.

    Yup, following up works.

After the 2nd one, you should test sending a third one. I'm betting it will be beneficial.

Yeah, I thought I might try sending a third, you never know & its free! Because I'm cheap I just use thunderbird..for those users out there you can copy a column of email addresses from excel and paste it into the address list and it automatically separates them.

I'm not yet into a routine as its a bit of a case of running around like a headless chicken, but I've had a few great opportunities fall into my lap - one piece of somewhat obvious advice I have is in your initial contact, you need to come across as very knowledgable & very personable - people buy into people, I believe it's this approach that has landed me, from a cold mobile site email, two full entire online/web based marketing strategy proposals, both of which have been accepted.

I need to get organized this weekend on a constant sending schedule that I can properly test, and get analytics so I can see the open rates, but my theory was pretty simple - any business owner checking their inbox for sales inquiries, is going to open a message with the subject 'Inquiry'. I really like the 'are you guys still open' line someone else was talking about.

Good idea. I did emailing a lot in the past but I never tried sending again to those who did not reply. I guess I can try that if I ever email businesses again.

I think the best way to do it is within 5-10 working days (I've only done it up to 6 working days later) as then you're still fresh in mind, and you stand out for trying again. It's just like calling a business and not getting through to the owner - you try again!

I will report how a third email goes. And remember to remove any replies both yes or no's, that's a surefire way to piss people off, and they are still possible future customers.

Does anyone have any experience calling people who they've emailed but not had a response from?

Right on man, I'm glad you're testing, tweaking and trying again - sweet tip on following up in a different style... if you're in a big ticket business that you can invest more time into, I'm very partial to the "going personal" or "networking" right off the bat - not even asking for anything (congruently)... instead... asking them if you can help with anything after establishing communication - then again, it depends on the niche/situation... thanks for sharing!

I can see how that approach would work well better in a big ticket business. I'm still keen to know whether anyone has tried emailing a list and then calling them, to further break through the 'random marketing message ignore'...it could be a good way to get past the gatekeeper, mentioning that you've sent the owner an important email but haven't had a reply or something similar.

    Good tip.

If you're personally sending emails you can get a REALLY
high percentage of people emailing you back just by writing
them an email that is 100% personalized to them saying
    something nice about them.

It sounds too simple but it is an amazingly effective way
    to open up a conversation.

    Kindest regards,

How are you gonna do that without it looks like youre sucking up to them? If you approach somebody you dont know its seems a little weird.
