How many of that 80,000 think they need a website, don't already have one, and believe it's really free?

Zero responses seems about right.

Did you already buy the billboard space? If you did, might I suggest testing an ad that works...before you spend the money?

Maybe find out if anyone in the history of advertising ever used a billboard to successfully generate sales of websites?

Are you gritting your teeth yet?

I hope you did not pay for the billboard. I just don't see anyone stopping to write down a phone number for a website from an unknown entity.

My suggestion: sublet the space to some big, well-known outfit.

My suggestion would be, pick a domain that is easy to remember and post it there instead of your phone number. That way when they get home or where they were going the website will be easier to remember than the phone number. ex: www.yourfreewebsite.com, getyourfreewebsite.com etc

Ugh. If you must stick with the website idea, at least change the offer to something about education.

"Seven Things You Must Know Before Hiring a Web Designer"

or "Getting a Website? Beware!"

"webknow.com"

keep that url dead simple and easy to remember--and maybe, maybe you'll get some visitors. It has to be a fast, hard-hitting message and an easy-to-remember domain. Most people will remember words much better than numbers.

Then it's up to your copy to convert once they get there. But at least if they do arrive, they'll be ready to read.

I use the voice recorder on my phone when driving to take notes of interesting things and marketing ideas to borrow, or I ask my wife to make note of it, but I'll bet that's unusual.

I actually will sometimes type notes or voice record but not as much as I should. Sadly I think great when driving but forget most of it later.
