Social Media - pricing, outsourcing, etc.

My buddy is setting up a social media company and he wants me to do the back-end stuff and he's doing all the selling. We're not really sure how to price packages, but he wants to offer $99, $149, and $199 packages to start. Obviously doing more basic stuff, and yes we'll have more things to upsell later on.

I'm thinking services like setting up all social media accounts - FB, Twitter, LinkedIn, G+, YT, Pinterest, etc. But we'll probably want to include updates for the networks (1 post daily, for example). Upsells could be graphics for the networks (i.e. a FB cover, Twitter background).

Does anyone know of any WSO out there that talks about this? Or if you can whitelabel these types of services let me know. Also need ideas on what to offer for the prices I mentioned. I can do some/all of the work, but ideally want to pay someone to do it.

Any ideas or experiences are appreciated!

    Best advice I can give is to google and check out the prices for some of the bigger names in this game. if you have competitors locally or within the niche you will target make sure to check them out as well.

    Basic idea would be a price to setup. Then a monthly fee based on the number of posts and who provides the content.

    There are people that offer this service as white label but I personally do not have one to recommend. I hope someone else will post links to people they have used successfully. But remember if you want to scale this you will be better off with full control and that means using employees not outsourcers.

      Thanks, Aaron. You'd think it would be easier to find what I'm looking for, but I'm still coming up short. Was hoping someone doing this would see this to provide a little info on what's working....or link to a WSO....

    Those prices seem low.

    Consider pricing by the size of the problem you're solving

    Jason, you are right, but I guess it depends on the services being offered. He wanted to go low as a foot in the door. A reseller I found is slightly higher than those prices, but not a lot, so that might end up working for us.

      Get the prospect to value the problem. Then when you offer your price, which is much lower than even 10% or 5% of the revenue your solution provides, it's a no-brainer.

      Offering a low price to get your foot in the door is not always a good idea.

      Believe it or not, selling on value and at higher pricing is often easier. Many people are trained to think the higher the price the more valuable the service.

      Many of the clients you will attract with your low price strategy will be headache clients.

      Besides, if your potential clients had to higher a Social Media Manager/Specialist they would be paying a minimum of $40,000/year salary, depending on area. That doesn't include employee expenses -- e.g. benefits, payroll taxes, etc..

      Take a look at the salary table at the link below, you'll see what it would cost the prospect to hire someone to perform social media management/strategy

      You'll learn, that even in outsourcing the actual work, you'll still be spending a lot of your time doing project management. Your low prices will end up translating into less than minimum wage for you and your partner.

      Hey Boom,

      I'm in with Jason and James in agreeing that your prices are too low for what it sounds like you're offering.

      Are you creating original content for these companies? Are you using software like HootSuite to schedule out the posts? Are you interacting, building community, providing customer service and monitoring reputation on these platforms?

      The value you could be bringing these companies is immense, and not everyone has the creativity, marketing sense and organization to do it.

    Pricing low with gradual increments is not a bad strategy. I've done it - it works; however the first 1-3 months worth of clients ends up being a terrible headache 4-6 months down the road. Great strategy if you need cashflow; bad strategy if you have prospects in hand that can see the value of your services; bad strategy for long term growth. Position your first clients as a "trial" and your "giving away the world for a handful of close friends." I was told from a lot of people that my prices were too low to start - they're still sitting at home talking on chat boards and my group broke $30 k in residual 6 months later. Best of luck.
