Creative Marketing From Local Photography Company

Hey guys,

I have been meaning to tell you all about this for a while now
but just keep on forgetting.

Basically I work in an italian restaurant and a portrait photography
company recently approached our manager and asked if we would
help him promote his business.

Basically what he done was create childrens menu's for us (we did
already have them) but he made them with his branding on them.

On one side he put the menu and on the other side he created a
colouring picture and a blank box. In the blank box the child is asked
to draw a picture of their family doing something fun together.

Now this part is a competition with a top prize of a £650 professional
photo shoot and photograph prints package, £200 runners up cash
prize and a £50 voucher to use in our restaurant for 3rd place.

Basically we explain it when we seat the customer and should they wish
to enter the childs parents have to fill in their name, address, email
address and telephone number which automatically acts as an optin
for the customer to receive promotions.

To sweeten the deal for our restaurant he is obviously providing a fun
menu, free engaging competition and he also pays £1 for every entrant
we get for him.

I was speaking with him this morning and in the 2 months it has been
running he has already made 10 sales directly from our opt ins.

Anyway, I hope this has given you some good ideas.

      It is and over 2 months we have had about 100 entrants, so far it has cost him about £130, he has his own industrial printer and handles the printing of the menus in house.

      What's more a lot of people get portraits of their children done, my wife gets one every time she sees a decent offer on. What normally gets her is the free shoot and 12x10 print for £10 then they hit you for about £30 for additional pictures from the shoot.

      She always buys at least one more.

      We have Montana's Restaurant in Canada where they put brown paper on the tables between customers and leave crayons.

    You should then have the photographer make some large framed prints to feature in your restaurant and have the families of those children notified of the exhibit because that can make them not only return to your restaurant but also likely bring in family members and friends to see the portraits which means it's a way to bring more people into your restaurant.

        This sounds like a brilliant idea that a member here on the WF named SteveSki would be interested in. He's a US photographer now based in Australia that paid his dues years ago in big box stores here in the states. Perhaps he and your photographer friend could swap some ideas and both come out smelling like roses ?

        My college economics professor was at a party finding his way to the bathroom when he felt someone stepping on his hand. I guess that's how economists do the "Feel, Felt, Found" technique.

          I'm thinking of printing paper placematts... give them to the restaurants for free, sell advertising spaces on them to pay for the printing and make a nice profit, and put a contest on the back with a notice about it on the front. Give the restaurant a free supply of colouring pens and also ceramic coffee mugs with ads on them. At the end of 3 months they give the mugs away to customers and I replace them with another 90 day supply.

    For night clubs/bars/restaurants or any fundraiser event or regular events, put together a package for them to provide a photog to do a red carpet photo shoot for customers, w/ the business name or a few printed all over a big backdrop. Make customers/attendees feel like celebs. Charge for the package, and hand each person a print of their photo(with photog watermark) and a photog brochure for shoots, could do an email/opt-in text on the spot for them to order a larger print as well so you have the lead capture right away.
