Other than PayPal, what systems do you use to handle recurring monthly payments from local businesses?

I use Braintree through Freshbooks. Works great.

I don't like to have someone else "intercepting" payments from my clients! (PayPal for example)

So....go down to Staples and buy a program called "Checksoft" ($49)

Collect checks from your clients (in person or Fax or simply by them giving you the Numbers from their checking account)

Plug the numbers into the CheckSoft program and....Print Out a Check. Stamp it on back with your bank acct # and....deposit.....just as if the client had handed it to you in person.

Then....every month, just have the program print out the checks for you to deposit.

      NO middlemen!

Don Alm.....I began using software like this back when the Banks made it OK to use Facsimile Checks....around '92 or '93

I was going to say Freshbooks was the best way to go but Dons post above seems like something you should really look into. Freshbooks is well known and reliable but there is a monthly fee that starts at $20.

With Dons solution you would be saving money after the 3rd month of using Checksoft so check out reviews on that.

I use freshbooks. However when I set up a recurring profile they are given an option of getting their card charged every month or paying manually and getting invoiced. I tell them all to choose the automatic charge but a lot do not. So still ends up with me chasing people down for money.

It would be great if their was something like paypal subscriptions where they are not given an option to pay manually.

It's amazing how there always seems to be a detective in the midst to counter or debate Don Alm whenever he posts his gems and helpful suggestions.

Fandbworld - I don't understand WHY you folks keep "fighting" against using a software program that allows YOU....little ol' YOU.....to CONTROL and handle recurring payments.

        1) I collect the FIRST CHECK from my clients....either
        ...in person
        ...fax
        or...phone

        2) I log in the Numbers on their Check into my software program and.... every month.....I print out my client's CHECKS....and deposit them in MY bank account! No fuss...No Invoicing....NO in-between company getting MY checks then pasing them on to me. I PREFER TO CONTROL MY MONEY!

and....Sodomojo....yes....you are Correcto....I USED TO USE "Q Check" ($100) but....I found a simpler program with more features....at my local Staples Store called "CheckSoft" for 49 BUX! (Which I made my "followers" aware of in some of my posts) Thanks for keeping on TOP of... WHAT I do! Shows "interest" on YOUR part!

        Don Alm.....always under a "microscope"

I don't understand why you type so ridiculous with your capitalization's.

I am not "fighting" against anything, never even mentioned check software.

            Cheers!

YES! Use a merchant account, they have lower fees and MUCH faster payment; I personally have a next day payment set up with authorize.net & firstdata.

I do something like tpgrm: I enter their card data once in my merchant processing account and set up the recurring payments. Click, click, click, done.

I have many clients on the First Data Platform, definitely a good choice. Though depending on a merchant's risk profile, there may be better options. Many top tier providers such as First Data tend to be risk averse. Factors such as business category, transaction types, guarantor's credit report, monthly volume, average ticket, years in business, card processing history, etc....are weighed in the underwiting process. Not everyone is approved. First Data also has a low tolerance for chargebacks, which can cause delayed settlements or funds held in reserve.

PM me with the following info for best fit / best pricing:

    1) Business Category (what are you selling?)
    2) Primary transaction method (card present -swiped?, mail order / telephone order? internet?)
    3) URL(s)
    4) Currently accepting credit cards? Y or N
    5) Years in business
    6) Average Monthly Card Volume ($)
    7) Average Sale Amount
    8) Number of Card Transactions per Month
    9) Personal Credit - Good? Bad? Ugly?
