The "holy grail" of sales and marketing is offering a product that virtually sells itself. We all want the one call close - no matter how unrealistic that is... We dream of picking up the phone one time, making one call, and hanging up with a cash sale for a nice four or five figure sum.

It does not always work like that. However, the closest thing we can get to this sort of an outcome can be visualized in the video contained here: Groupon Was "The Single Worst Decision I Have Ever Made As A Business Owner" | TechCrunch

Pay attention to why this merchant took a bad deal. Her primary reason was that she looked across the street, saw it looked like a big deal and decided to act based on that preliminary knowledge.

Groupon sold perception - for billions. A terrible deal for merchants - that looked like a big deal.

So for you - how can you make what you do look like a really big deal locally? It's totally subjective dependent on what you sell, but if you are ambitious enough you can find your own Holy Grail.

Can Eric Lefkofsky Turn Groupon Around? - Chicago magazine - October 2013 - Chicago

It was a decent idea that people went crazy for because consumers want a deal, and they had quirky marketing/copywriting that was appealing. The flaws started to show over time. Add in the fact that very, very few businesses know how to market themselves properly.

Some businesses knew how to take advantage of Groupon, but there are many examples of retailers that sold lots of stuff at huge discounts with nothing to show for it.

Marketing is not a battle of products. It is a battle of perceptions.

Yeah it wasn't in Groupon's interest to show businesses tell businesses that they should have a system in place to re-market to those deal seekers.

Some people were really taking advantage of it, and I think for some businesses it really does take a toll on them because there really is nothing for them to showcase even when they sold hundreds of items at low prices with little money to be earned for them.

Some business owners want to make money without having to give away huge deals that would threaten how much they earn for their items and products.

Let's not lose focus on this thread.

They sold smoke and mirrors for a bad deal.

You can't deploy same tactics for a legitimately good deal? This lady said she looked across the street for her buying signal.

      She said it on tape.

Let's talk about how you can have a prospect look across the street, and see a buying signal you planted with your last client.

I've figured it out for my biz... The spectre of the "viral co-efficient." - YES.
