Why offline marketing isn't for everyone

Now, there is a reason why I made this thread. I have noticed that most people believe offline marketing is giving a business a service.

While that is the point of it all, you should know that your goal should be to provide value. If you don't want to do that and all you want is the cash, trust me, you won't get much sales from a business owner. Offline is a huge business that is full of rude business owners and plenty of people who are too naive to think they need any form of promotion or advertising.

You must know that there are many business owners to sell to, but if you do not know how to give value and you aren't willing to put in the work to help a business owner, you won't land any clients, especially recurring clients. I mean, you may land a a client here or there, but it won't bring you up there for too long.

Here is what I've noticed from people I have worked with in the offline consulting business. They sell and they collect their cash, but they don't keep up with their customers.

The same client who bought that website redesign from you could be your main source to another high paying client as a referral, or he or she could be your potential source for paying thousands and thousands for something else you have to offer.

OFFER THEM SOMETHING THEY CANNOT REFUSE!

Give them so much value that they can't help but say Thank You for everything. Give them so much value that they feel the need to come back to you and ask you for more!

You make a very valid point here, so many starting out, just want to sell an owner a web design/service, cash their cheque and move on to the next owner.

Where as in fact we should treat each new client as a tree, it needs to be nurtured and watered in the hope it will one day turn into a mighty oak (long time loyal client). Otherwise if left unloved so to speak it will wither and die away. Along with all the perks it would have come with.

Selling again to a current client is far easier than selling to new clients all the time.

What do you say that provides value? Do you have any examples? Say for instance, a business owner asks you why he should buy from you and not continue to spend his $300 per month on yellow pages.

By value, I simply mean showcasing them what yu can do for them. For example, when a business owner says they are doing well with what they are doing, I always try to see if there is a way I can one up them.

I had a client who had a website ranking high for broader terms in his area, and he was getting more than 300 visits from people on their mobile phones. I of course sold him a mobile site professionally designed, and then I threw in a custom made QR Code, a professional poster from Vistaprint to post on his storefront, and I even gave him a quick copywriting edit on some of his advertising.

By value, I simpy mean giving them one thing, and nurturing the relationship by giving them more things for free. The more you give them and show them that you do care about their business, the more they will want to do business with you.

He believed in my mobile site because I told him there was no monthly fee to it; just the monthly fee he was paying for hosting, and that he really was getting targeted traffic from mobile viewers. I charged him almost $800 for everything above. I could have charged him more because his business was doing well, but I didn't feel like I needed to because of how I could upsell him on tons of other things later on. I am working on a rep management deal with him that I am expecting to reach a little over $2,000 with, but I will probably start it off at $2,499 and bring it down!

Of course, I will be throwing in more bonuses, benefits, and tons of exclusive deals with him to help them know that I am here for real.

If you have a client who wants to stick to their current circumstances, the first goal is to show them why your way is going to benefit them and WILL get them more customers.
