About to call lawyers... need a hot callback script

Hey all,

I am about to call a bunch of high-profile lawyers due to my site ranking #1 for a uber competitive keyword.

The plan is to use the strategy to call off hours and leave a simple, to the point voice mail message so I get call backs. I plan on doing some sort of auction.

How would you guys go about and approach this? I just want to make a good impression from the get-go.

    Personally?

    1. Find Lawyer on Banner about keyword
    2. Call and say "I saw you banner on "road" and see you do "kind of law keyword is about" please call back." Or the non-call back version if I got them on phone.
    3. Start conversation by asking how the billboard is working and lead into the fact you need their help to solve a problem. Problem being you have leads and no one to give them to. So you figured since their billboard was in that niche they would be a good fit. "Do you have room for more clients in "keyword"?"

    Basically it's just selling and if you have done your research the lead price should match up with what they pay per lead.

    Of course if you are number one and they are number 2 this won't do you much good but your hope would be they are spending money offline and you can get them to spend money online in a similar fashion.

      They're not on the 1st page and they're doing AdWords, which as we know costs a fortune for these keywords ($100+ per click).

      I had not thought of the billboard idea though, clever. Although I see 2 issues:

      1) I am not local to them so it'll be hard to find relevant ads
      2) Those clients are usually not familiar with the web, much less with Google, so with my experience it's a harder sell.

    The attorneys are not likely to care about your site or ranking. Only those who are educated about online lead generation will notice.

    Any idea what the search term has got for a monthly search total?

      I think they are pretty educated in the sense that they are already advertising using AdWords.

      Search volume is pretty low (50-100 per month, exact match though).

        Might want to mention that fact about the Adwords in your message then. And you want to let them know how many high-quality leads we're talking about.

        Let's play devil's advocate on why they might not be the best match for this. Now I would still target them as they are spending money advertising to that niche of law but think about this.

        1. How many leads are you getting?
        2. How much per lead are you planning to charge?
        3. How many leads are they getting?
        4. How much are they paying per lead on PPC?

        Example: Let's say they currently get 10 clicks at $5 per click and their website converts 20% of them into leads. They are paying $25 per lead.

        If you are getting 10 leads per month that is better than what they are getting but will they want to pay more than the $25 per lead?


        Taking that one step further what if they are qualifying people well on their site and every lead becomes a client. If only 50% of yours will become clients is your lead worth even half what they pay since the lead costs them time that is better used on qualified leads.

        In our world (RV sales) I get calls all the time telling me how they can sell me leads. The issue is we don't need more leads in fact we have worked on filtering out leads by qualifying people out before they become a lead. Which lead to increased sales. More leads doesn't always mean more sales often getting less unqualified leads thus giving you more time to focus on the qualified leads is what makes you more sales.

        I say this because on this site people have the mistaken believe that every lead has value and what businesses want is leads. Trust me no one truly wants leads. They need leads to make sales. But the smart companies will cut off lead sources that are not quality.

        We dropped a $400/mo service because the only leads we got from them were on the lowest priced units from customers too far away (transportation costs come into play when dealing with price). The leads had no value. In fact they were taking up our sales people's time so they had less time for follow up. The leads were literally costing us more sales than they were creating.

        That's why I so often tell people not to target the guys doing PPC or on the front page of google. You need to target the guy who isn't ranking for the term yet is spending money on offline advertising for that niche. Why? Because the vast majority of offline advertising has a lower ROI. This means they are use to paying more per lead they get or likely not tracking it at all. You can charge more while providing great value to people who clearly want clients in that niche.

    Good points by you Aaron. I agree 100%. Also, I guess I should have mentioned it but yes, I don't plan on sticking with people spending money on AdWords (I wouldn't have a whole lot of lawyers to make a deal with).

    The other thing I had in mind is indeed, going through the top 100 of Google, CitySearch, Yelp, etc... I don't mind getting less for the leads, if I strike a deal with a smaller law firm that is in need of leads.

    Issue you will run in to with firms doing Google Adwords is they will generally have a web guy handling that for them and will usually just forward the email along to them and say what do you think? I would therefore also target those that are not doing adwords.

    I have also found great success in the past by selling to lawyers via fax. In other words I faxed them a few leads. This worked well when I found it impossible to get anything through to them via email.

    Also a one man outfit is easier to sell to. Larger firms are decision by committee and want to make you drive your face into a wall.

    Also be prepared to answer the question of "how long will the rankings last" or "how do I know they will last". Personally I always loved that question as I could offer a rental of the site will it ranked with me ensuring its ranks. At other times I sold it and simply offered up my seo services.
