What Can You Do with 90 Minutes?

What is the single most valuable lead-generation task you successfully do in 90 minutes each day?

That includes giving away valuable products like videos.

I've had a couple of leads in the last month from emailing businesses that I found with lead-gen software, but I'm still learning how to convert calls and those ones didn't go so well.

    The single most profitable thing I can do per minute (when prospecting) is calling old clients/buyers on the phone to make an appointment for another idea.

    Nothing comes close.

    Calling referrals from clients is the second most profitable prospecting I can do.

    If you have no clients (Like I used to), the single most profitable thing I did was speak to small groups of business owners.

    If you can't do that, and want to do something for the very next hour? Walk into small businesses, ask for the owner, and give him a gift for 5 minutes of his time (or her time).

    If you won't do any of those things? go to networking events.

    But I have to tell you, I made a very good living just cold calling for a couple decades. If you get on the phone with a good script (Contact Jason Kanigan for that), a solid 90 minutes should get you some results.

    If you cold call without a script, or one you just put together yourself? You're almost completely wasting your time. I hope that helps.

      Hello, I don't know if it is a good way to reply to your post, cause I'm new here. I think u wrote sth very smart. Sometimes it is better to go to small businesses and talk with owner personally. And it is easier for me to present my offer over the phone than by e-mail, because by words I could attract sb's attention, but an e-mail may end up in the mail box.

    If I don't have much work on, I have 3 things I usually do to boost my work.
    I am a writer and proofreader so it's not sales as such.

    I email current and past clients to see if I can help them with their current and future goals.
    I bump my ad in here as I get quite a bit of work from that ad.

    I bump my ads in Gumtree as I also get work from the 2 ads I run there.

    There is ALWAYS something you can do to boost your work, whether it's for work right now or planting seeds for future work.

    I'll give you an example. 2 weeks ago I had surgery so, 2 weeks before that, I emailed my clients and advised them I would be unavailable for a week due to surgery and that I recommend they get their orders in now to avoid disappointment.
    That one email alone earned me over $600.

    So always be thinking outside the box as well as what you do regularly and you open up more avenues of opportunity for work.

    For lead generation I have learnt that list down 7 advertising that you can do every day. I will tell you what I did for my real estate. See what applies to you. It is amazing when you do this how much sales you can do. First thing to do is always ask yourself what have I done today to market my products or services.

    1. Advertising on craigs list. Any category that fits your product/service

    2. I used advertising on green sheets for my biz (acquired 6 homes with no money down in 1 year). It cost about $75 per month when i was doing it in 2009

    3. Leaving your biz card in gas stations, wallmart or shops where they have some free classifieds shelves.

    4. Sticking signs where you know its not a problem. I have left signs near road intersections. The worst case sometimes you get warning sometimes they throw it away. but it sure does work.

    5. Paid classfied advts. Home biz magazines.

    Those are things I have done. This will get you results then find which one works for you and keep doing it. Now important thing is you need to think if you need to take the calls or provide voice mails. If I use it for buying homes i take the calls personally. If I am selling homes I use automated message taking system.

    the best use of 90 minutes is to develop something that will 'speak to' multiple targeted people , don't spend your valuable and only 90 minutes connecting with 3 or 4 people, use it to develop and improve ways of connecting with 50- 35000 targeted people

    Claude said it best. Call previous customers or referrals to generate the best response in the shortest amount of time. If you don't have those... you need to pitch your services to new clients.

    I would disagree with the comment about needing a script. I don't think it's necessary. Having a good opener, however, is mandatory. This can be something as simple as:

    "Hi Prospect, my name is _____ and I help businesses get more phone calls from their website. I wanted to ask you a couple questions about your website if that's okay. Is it sending you any business?"

    ---"I don't have a website"
    -----"Do you think you're missing out on sales by not having one?"

    ---"Yes it sends us plenty of business."
    -----"Would you like more?"

    ---"No not really."
    -----"Would you like to get more business out of it?"

    Obviously you will need a sales message for after this. And you'll need qualifying questions and such. But this is a solid opener that I use to start conversations and get people paying attention to me. It works quite well.

      It's also different if you are making an in-person appointment or trying to sell over the phone.

      The reason I say you need a script is that most people starting out will unknowingly say things that will kill a sale. They may say things that, if they posted their script here, a few of us would instantly see the flaw.

      Me? I have certain things I say in a certain way, but I think we all do that.

      The important thing is to not read a script.

    Some great replies. Claude is bang on for sure with some specifics.
    I wanted to share something a bit less granular to keep in mind.
    As internet marketers or self employed people often working from home or off site it is crucial to remember if you want something from the universe you have to simply reach out.

    I have built all kinds of fancy prospecting machines to sell all kinds of services.
    Thinks like putting together a video and sending faxes emails to the video/salespage and then converting leads etc...


    I have made as much or more money with silly little posts in small forums by just reaching out and saying exactly what I wanted and how I could help.

    For example in Canada we have a local classifieds site called Kijiji (think ebay classifieds).
    I have gone in the same free section were people are posting to build web sites for $50 etc..
    and have made posts like "Talented local internet marketer looking for interesting project, please have minimum 10k retainer...."

    Now here is the funny part. I get a half dozen emails from the guys posting to build $50 web sites telling me I am a crack pot and that if I was so great I would not be begging for work etc...

    I ALSO have many times been contacted by someone sincere that turned out to be a good fit and needed my help. I keep a scrapbook of the pictures of 10k checks that have been handed to me for deals that came around from something as simple as reaching out in this way. Of course this only happened because I could legitimately help the person but it still drives home the point that reaching out and stating exactly what you want and finding out exactly what they need is a great way to spend some time.

    Go to Meetup.com - find business meetups. Avoid meetings full of wannabees. Instead, target meetups with real business owners. You can figure out the difference with a little digging.

    Go to two or three a week, shake hands, get cards. The other days, call back everyone on the cards you collected and ask if you can buy them a cup of coffee.

    Meet for coffee, make friends. Buy into their vision, and think of ways you can help them go farther.
    Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.

    Work from old clients and their refferals are what works for me best as well.
    If you are desperate and need money this week - talking with business owners would do the trick the fastest, just walk in and start talking.
    If you need money next month- make webinars and small product, etc. If you make a little report, even £7 each month it will add up pretty quickly. It won't pay for maserati, but it just might save you from missing the mortgage payment next month.
