What is the deal with reputation domains?

I have spent the last hour going through probably 100 or more possible domain names for a reputation management website and of course, all of them are taken.

The thing that is funny as hell is, none of them have websites set up on them.

Some of these domains have been paid for 5 plus years and are just parked.

WTF?

A lot of good domain names are taken by people who never had the desire to put a domain on them. Rather, they're buying them because they're good domain names and sooner or later someone will pay them a lot more money than they spent to buy.

Every now and again I get an offer to buy a domain that sounds like one of mine. They want from $400 to $3,000 (so far). And they're not that great.
