[Solved] Where to sell used appliances besides craigslist?

Hi, I buy and sell appliances on craigslist as my primary income. I typically sell a washer or dryer for $140 with free delivery in exchange for their old/broken appliance. On the weekends I make 1-2 sales per day, on the weekdays only 0.3 to 1 sales per day.

Is there anywhere else I could try selling my used appliances? I don't make enough to justify a store unfortunately, and craigslist is so competitive that I won't make many sales at all without free delivery.

Back in the 90's, my friend and I were in the used appliance business. We did not sell to consumers. We sold to used appliance stores. He also tried selling some from his garage but got tired of that in a hurry. Too many people come by and expected us to deliver and hook up for free. Anyway, what we didn't sell we immediately sold to the scrap metal yard.

We never bought any appliances. When we opened the business we simply spread the word via local civic organizations, realtors, and used and new furniture stores. Sounds crazy but it worked.

How do you make a civic organization work for you?

Try leaving flyers at businesses located next door to and surrounding laundry mats.

Some business owners will do it for free but be prepared to offer a small referral or ad fee enlisting the business owners help.

Neighborhoods with laundry mats usually have Chinese or Mexican restaurants in the same plaza. Laundry mat customers will want to eat at some point during their visit and take a walk to a neighboring establishment while their clothes are in the washer/dryer.

It's at that point your flyer would begin to look a whole lot better than trekking to the laundry mat every week.

Apartments mailbox areas are also a great place to advertise.

Why don't you create your own seller website and promote it through Craigslist? Also, you can use backpage too for promoting your appliances.

There are usually several facebook groups in any city devoted to buy/sell used items.

You can stand out by having value added listings, meaning having attractive looking pictures and or doing videos for certain pieces.
