Advice Needed: Approaching Local Clients w/No FB Fanpage Photo

Howdy My Local Marketers,

Looking for advice on how to best describe the importance of having a timeline photo on a fan page to those local companies I'll be reaching out to who have taken the time to create the fan page, but who have NOT uploaded/installed their timeline photo?

I know that from a marketing stand-point, that's just additional internet real estate one can use to help further promote/brand their business/service/product, but I can't really think of any additional information to add.

Any tips/advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ray

    You'll need a good headline.

BUT...you will still be sorting. Those who realize the value of having the image from those who don't. For those who don't, no amount of trying to convince them will work. Move on to new prospects.

This took me a while to figure out and it can apply to most anything you can share with these small biz owners about marketing.

If they just dont get it a first but genuinely want to understand then I am happy to go into detail with them BUT if Its a situation where I have to CONVICE them of something, then time is better spent looking for someone else.

I love to use real examples. If I was approaching a restaurant with no image and little engagement I would find a similar type of restaurant even in a different town doing it right. Ideally you want to show their lame page with no likes or images then a very similar competitor knocking it out of the park with a great page, tons of likes and specials being pushed etc...

Nothing drives the point home better than showing side by side examples of how they have fallen behind.

There are other variables here. We don't know how active they are on Facebook for example.

What I will assume is they are not active since they would notice the lack of photo if they were. An active account with no photo would be a different beast.

In that case if their business could benefit from Facebook and I believed it was worth my time I would approach them this way. Once I got to the right person I would discuss how I found them on Facebook and find out why they are not active on it. I would tailor my presentation on social media management based on what they say. Likely I expect it to be time and not seeing the value.

Time is easy since we would handle it. Their time investment would be very small.

For value I would first find a way to explain why marketing to existing customers has more value than fishing. I expect they like many businesses will find this to be a foreign concept. Second we would discuss how using Facebook and other 'lists" to get customers in more often will be profitable. And even how tying acquisition marketing into various lists can increase the value of the marketing.

Example would be running an ad in the paper but making them text blank to 12345 to get the coupon and future coupons emailed to them. You can tie it into Facebook or any other list just as easily. The key being you don't just get the single visit but you can promote future visits.

Depending on which services I provided I would sell one (seems like social media management here) and upsell to the others.
