Door to door (b2b) flyer business card results?

I understand what the general conversion rate is like cold calling....

What about putting a flyer or a business card in the drop door of hundreds of businesses each week? This would be for marketing services.

Is it a total waste of time? Do tell.

I am interested in what the others think too, however, I will find out for myself this December (might be a bad time to start :p). I plan on handing out my flyers and meeting the individuals personally. About 500 flyers a week.

Standard direct marketing (from what I read) to send out a few thousand postcards to some random peeps will result in response rates of 0.5%-2% and more likely, less will be converted. I am using those numbers even though I hope I get a higher response rate. Hell the read rate should be 90%!

I think my postcard copy, 30 second speech, and damn good OTO should bring a conversion rate of at least 2%-3% which would be good for me. I'm offering a service with recurring payment.

It isn't a waste of time, but it's a close as you can get. Meet them in person. Walk In. Tell them what you do. You'll have a profitable customer by the end of the day.

I have done this before to try and open up an area. I left flyers on hundreds of businesses, with great calls to action and pricing on print, website, etc.. I knew my pricing was competitive because I had researched the area.

Bottom line is, if you shake someones hand they will give you the time of day.

You could leave/mail 5000 flyers and get a horrible return, or walk into 100 businesses and get 10 times the response.

Business owners will trust you if you are face to face.

It's all about the product you are marketing

My question to the OP, are you trying to cut marketing costs or more importantly are you trying to generate new clients?

If you're trying to cut costs you're cutting them but the response to effort is dismal at best and the Copy better be Kick Ass on Great Paper Stock, look professional and be sharp.

Now, if you're looking to generate a butt load of clients you should be using a Direct Mail list targeted to your exact customer profile. Then using the Snail Mail Techniques with a grabber to get results. You must consistently keep touching people to turn them into a lead. Step 2 you convert them to a Prospect then close them with the VELVET HAMMER into a client.

After years on this forum, i am still amazed at how many WF members are still doing stuff the Ridiculous way. Old school is not old at all, it's being used by savvy marketers because it works.

      Just my 2 cents...

No it's not I would just recommend that you have other people pay for the delivery. You can see more on my site.
