Hi!

As the title goes. Have you tried the fridge magnet idea? Like a magnetic calender with business listing on it or a fridge magnet directory. Like selling 15 - 20 spots at £99 a pop?

Have you had any success? I am planning to try it out so i wanted to know if any of you have had success with it.

If so please provide me with numbers. How many listings did u sell? How long did it take you? Cold calling or cold walkin in? etc. Most importantly how much did u make?

Thanks,
Ron

How many are you thinking of having knocked up?

This seems a reasonable company and the 200mm x 125mm seems about the right size if you outline that on a piece of paper.

Promotional Fridge Magnets, Custom Printed Magnets, Magnetic Calendars, Advertising Magnets

So 500 would be £415 plus your artwork costs whatever they would be. (£165 to be neat and tidy I have no idea)

Your max 20 Ads at £99 would bring you £1980 less these costs so maybe you get £1400

So the real question is not how much money anyone made as this is irrelevant but how fast can you sell 20 spots.

Doing it in 1 day or 1 month makes the same money.

Yet one makes it worthwhile the other doesn't really. Well not to me but I'm not you.

I think £99 to be on 500 Magnets is a bargain for a Tradesperson to be honest. 20p a house to be there 365 days of the year for possibly years.

Here is a little idea for you.

One of the villages close by Advertises in the local paper taking the double pages in the middle.

All the roughly Bus Card sized Ads are round the outside and the inside is a bit of Copy.

The businesses are all to do with home and garden, eg Kitchen company, plumber, sparky, lawnmower person and they call themselves The Twyford Home Improvement Group even though they are all independent of each other.

So I would take this simple concept and call it The whereveryoulive Home Improvement Group, launch it in an Indian with the Press there and then have a magnet headed with this and all the Ads from relevant companies.

Then I would be networking the businesses together, telling them how to up sell each other and cross reference etc etc

So there is a little idea to make it simpler for you to sell.

    Dan

Hey I was thinking about doing 1000 pieces of the 100x125mm Size. Printing costs come up to £582 inc vat, so lets say £600.

    I am planning to sell 16 spots to local businesses. 16 x 99 = £1584 - printing cost £600 = £984 which is just about 1k.

So that I think would be easy to sell at £99 a spot. That is not even 10p to advertise in a house for a whole year!

I am thinking about walking into local businesses and showing them a sample and trying to get a check straight away if they are interested. However I have'nt done door to door before so I dont know how it is going to work. More over Im based near London so i don know how people here would react, unlike americans english are a bit stuck up

I would like to sell all spots in a week's time.. Any other advice?

You're in the right place, Ron. Just use the search button here and do some research.
There are many threads about refrigerator magnets.

There is a ton of good/free information in those threads, especially in the posts from Don Alm (no affiliation). Having sold ad space on magnets, I can tell you from experience that Don's information is "golden" if you take on one of these projects.

      Good Luck!

Where near London? Town or Village?

I don't have any advice as it is not something I have done or plan to do yet if I was some sort of Trades person then I think this is a good deal.

Newspaper Reps sell the 'need to advertise for 6 weeks minimum' all the time so businesses are already softened up to the concept of repetition.

365 days a week 10 times a day repetition will make sense to them.

I'm guessing you have read Martin Buckley/Don Alm threads. Probably lot's of useful ideas in them somewhere.
