Every Door Direct Mail Question

Hey guys, is there a restriction on the type of ads you can send out in an EDDM mailing?

For example, would pushing a payday loan offer to targeted areas be something the post office would let you send out through EDDM if the states laws allowed it?

Simply contact the postmaster in your area and get the exact answer. I do not suggest you go by anything said in this or any other forum

If your in Canada no restrictions for that subject they basically don't care as long as you have the cash and is within their size restrictions it's a go.

There is no restriction on the content. It just needs to meet their size requirements (most popular is 6.5x8) and have the eddm indicia and "local postal customer" box in the correct spot (right side when looking at it horizontally.) I have templates if you need one.

Er, that would be wrong. Try sending a flat mailer with nudity on it

I would NEVER count on people on a forum to answer a question
that is so important. Call the post office.

Just an update, I called and they said it was fine. The funny thing is when I got home I had a small 4x6 card or so that promoted a payday lender locally in town sitting in my mailbox. Although it wasn't EDDM but the ad was right out there in the open.

So looks like I got my question answered twice.

You definitely need to talk to the postmaster. A phone call would work fine. There are restrictions such as sexual nature, but I'm not sure what else.

If you're doing a co-op piece, you may want to think about the overall tone of the card. I wouldn't risk offending one or more of the businesses by having a questionable ad on the card. It's like having a trashy neighbor that you wish would just move out.

They probably wouldn't even care if it was XXX rated. They need all of the money they can get.

What is everybody charging for a 5,000 Card EDDM Mailout per AD?

What size ads do you run?

Do your advertisers run on more than one card a month / market?
