Is it a wrong approach?

Ok, so I cold call my first 2 pizza restaurant and I have still 18 people to call. This is my first attempts to cold call and of course I am so nervous. I searched on Google Keyword Planner the volume of searches for pizza restaurant edmonton and got an average of 2000, I don't know if that's the correct term to search. There are some pizzeria searches that rank very high on planner, ranging from 10k to 27k searches like "boston pizza" "dominos pizza" etc.

Now, I started internalizing Jason Kanigan's script, and his Little Unsure approach. I called the first pizza restaurant, and the person who takes order answered. I said,

"Hi, I'm not sure if you're the right person I should be talking to, maybe you can help me?"

"sure"

"I'm calling from White Blue Fox and we do services like web development, maybe I can speak with the decision maker for advertising?"

"He's not here"

"Uhm ok, thanks, I'll just call on another day, bye."

"Hang up"

Same situation with the 2nd number. So I'm thinking is there a way to deal with restaurants, I really don't know if I should use that approach to them. Maybe it's just timing, or it's just because the owners are not really there.

Did the gatekeeper thought I'm a salespreson?

Is the owner really there?

Should I learn different approach on this one?

I'm not fluent in english, but they can still understand my words.

You forgot to ask when would be a good time to catch him when he is in.

Make sure you ask when would be a good time because even though he may be in, he could normally be busy in some of those hours.

    Best,
    Ewen

Jason also says to keep up the little unsure technique - in my opinion don't tell them who you are if they say sure - tell them who you are trying to reach. i.e. the person who is in charge of their marketing. Get their name, then have them transfer you, or if they are not in like Ewen said ask them when a good time to reach them would be.

Oh yeah that's what I feel that I missed. I'll ask for it next time.

Yup that's also what I figured, I'm thinking on switching to lawyers, clinics or plumbers, that sort of niche. By the way I already have 20 list of plumbers that I got from yellowpages, they have a different working schedules, but I think a little revision from your script will do the job.

Yeah I don't give them my name, I only tell my virtual group and pretty much what I typed above.

Stay away from attorneys for now; they're hard to reach, too.

I don't usually say anything but, "Hi, I'm not sure who I should speak with...maybe you can help me." And wait a moment for the GK to respond. If they don't that's OK. "I usually speak to the person who's in charge of {whatever}. But I don't know who that would be there..."

That's it. Sometimes, maybe 1 in 8 or 10 times, I get asked, "What's this about." Most of the time they 'figure it out', you can actually hear them process it, and send me along. No name, no company, nothing.

          EDIT:

This is a from a call I made on Tuesday this week. Very typical. (no opt-in, just the audio)

So my target now are dentists. Sometimes the owner is usually the dentist working there, assuming it's not a branch clinic. Also, I will practice your line. Sometimes I'm tempted to look from another posts, which usually don't work out well.

Dentists are as hard as lawyers to reach. They have to be working to get paid.

Look at the previous post; I added a recent example of the technique since it's been 2 years since the first one.

Great! Simple yet effective. I'll be consistent on this one. Thanks Jason!
