Computer keeps tripping off...

Hi Warriors. I have a clients computer which keeps shutting down a few minutes after turning it on. It is an old Antec desktop computer. When it was given to me by the client, the green light on the motherboard would go on and off intermittently and make a sound. I determined that the problem was the power supply and replaced it with a new one. The computer came on and worked for some time before shutting itself down again. Turning it back on, the computer comes on but after a while shuts itself down again. So I ordered yet another power supply and replaced it again. The computer came on and worked much longer this time but later shut itself down again. Now I am wondering if the problem is really the power supply. It would seem to me that something is tripping the computer off. Could someone please tell me what they think the problem could be with the computer? Thanks in advance for your answers.

  • I had a similar problem with a PC I had about 5 or 6 years ago - I found that the inside was covered with dust because our house has forced hot air which even when you change the furnace filters regularly still pushes a lot of dust thru the vent and ultimately get's pulled through the PC's ventilation openings.

    I also found that the little cans of compressed air simply did not do good enough job of cleaning so I began opening the case, bracing it against the side of our garage door and using an electric leaf blower - that may seem extreme to some but after doing this one time, the shutting off issue resolved itself and the amount of dust that came out of the case and CPU fan areas was incredible.
  • I cannot see the computer powering off if HD have an issue, only HD would turn off then, 2 things will cure it, open the computer (if its the tower model) and clean it, all dust out, 2nd is check all connectors (especially the power that goes to motherboard) and 3rd something stupid that happen to me recently (after i moved to a new house took a powerplug from a box which was not the original one but figured out why not, its same anyways, they all are for PCs), it was broken just after the connector in outside (back of the box) replaced it and computer runs again
  • Mine kept crashing and shut down, had to replace the hard drive to new one with more memory. Now its working good.
