Mass voicemail options?

FIRST POST!

I've been looking for a way to record a voice message and send it out to hundreds of phone numbers. 2 problems.

1. so far have found nothing other than paid services which charge about a dime per call

2. I'm in Canada, most services are limited to US numbers only

Surely, there MUST be a way to automate this process?

I have a list of phone numbers, it's on paper but I'm sure I can convert them all to a digital format.

I have a feeling that there is no solution out there as of yet so I'll have to make something myself.

So, I'll need to find a way to call people and get to their voice mail every time. The only way I know to do this by going into my voice mail and forwarding to other numbers, I tried doing this for my land line but for some reason it didn't work (I was able to forward to my cell though).

Once I can do that, the rest is just finding a way to make the computer automate the entire process. For this I figure I'll probably have to do some programming.

But again, I'm sure I'm not the first one to think of this so there must be a better way. Any ideas?

EDIT: Also thought about SMS and that will most likely be my fall back option if this doesn't work. I really would rather have mass voice mail though since a) I could really use that human element b) most of these numbers are landlines.

EDIT2: Another alternative would be to include a voicemail number they can call for more info. Then create an awesome voicemail. I'd use google voice mail.

EDIT3: I was going to go with that previous option but it turns out Google voicemail only works for the US. Even if I could find a work around to make it work in Canada, I'd have an American number which no Canadian customer would call. I'm out of ideas for tonight, don't know if anyone here can help at all but I thought I'd give it a try.

EDIT4: Guess I'll just skip the voicemail altogether and give them my email.

Do many offliners really use this? Whenever my phone rings, and it's an automated message - I delete it, every time. Same with voicemails. So for people like me, it's very ineffective, other than pissing me off that I wasted 7 seconds I'll never get back.

I get that it's just a numbers thing... Volume is the key here. But maybe it just rubs me the wrong way because of how impersonal it is. I'm sure it works, and to those who get clients this way, hats off to ya.
