Domain Names for small businesses?

I'm trying to come up with a domain name for a local business that will be easy to remember and actually makes sense.

The clients company name is All American Builders.

allamericanbuildersSTATE.com is already taken.

All abbreviations are already taken as well.

Questions, does a mix of words and abbreviations make sense to use and would that be good customer wise? Easy to remember? Make sense?

I was thinking allabSTATE.com as it would be really short and is available.

Do you think that is confusing at all? Using the mix of the two and then the states abbreviation after it?

THANKS A LOT!

If .com is taken, try .net. Or is it a must that it should be a .com?

That's actually available, although I'm thinking that's kind of a long domain name, no?

I think I'm going to grab the .net sbucciarel sent me. It's a nice domain, I'm probably just over thinking the .net extension.

I don't think you'll be sorry. It's an excellent domain name for that business.

  • you may use state name first then 'allamericanbuilders'.

Why do you need the state? If it is to try for a PMD, you might be wasting your time. I have found that state keywords usually don't have a ton of volume when dealing with a business like this. Better to go after the city name.

URL gets really wordy adding a state of city name, and the abbr just makes it hard to remember. If you can't get allamericanbuilders dot some tld, maybe allamericanbuildersAZ or WA depending on the state?

Think outside the box (mmm....taco bell). If you can't find a good domain with the company name, try something descriptive, like bestamericanbuilders dotcom (ok, that one is already taken). As long as it is easy to remember, it doesn't necessarily have to incorporate the companies name.

Sure, using the company name would be ideal, but if you've exhausted all possibilities, then something catchy, descriptive, and relevant could do the trick.

I think a mix of abbreviation and words is probably too confusing.

If you haven't already, try searching godaddy. Sometimes you get lucky and they suggest a decent alternative to the domain you're looking for.

If you want to try the new TLDs (top level domains), then allamerican.builders is available for pre-order at 1and1.com - only 19.95 (I'm not an affiliate).

I still think this is the new wave of domain extensions that we are headed toward.

    Check it out.

I pm'd you with a great domain that is available and is a .com with no dashes or numbers. I would stay away from all those crappy new extensions.

Thanks a lot for the replies!

I don't think going with one of the new TLDs is a good option. I want to keep it simple and with what people are already familiar with..

sbucciarel sent me a decent domain name, .com isn't available, however the .net is available.

Is using a .net just as good? I know I'm familiar with it but I want something that when spread by word of mouth people will remember the extension. I figure most people will automatically assume .com. Even if they're told "allamericanbuilders.net" a couple weeks down the road they may remember the name easily but not the extension as it's not that important. Or am I wrong here? Word of mouth sales can be important for this client.
