Need a little help and advice from Warriors

I have been recently unemployed. I was a truck driver owner/operator and the truck had a major breakdown and it will he a long time before we can get it fixed.I wold like to get out of it totally if I can. For the short term I will probably have to take a really low paying job that i don't want to do just to get by.

I have been dabbling in IM since 2008 but will be making $5000.00 a month by next week or next month. I know it is possible and has been done but I also know that is the exception not the rule. I will keep working on getting a couple of niche affiliate sites going and building lists in them.

I am really interested in, software development, games and 3D graphics and have been playing around with that for years. To be totally honest I am not really that good with it. I look at it as more of a hobby. I may be able to make a little affiliate money with 3D graphics. Maybe I could market a programming course that I could develop and am planning that but that would be down the road, not immediate or very near future steady sustainable income.

What I am thinking of is web design. I am pretty good with Wordpress and Dreamweaver and can pick up on HTML programs pretty quickly. I don't know much about PHP, CSS or XML but figure I can pick it up as I go along. I am thinking about a reseller program from one of the hosting companies and charging the customers a few bucks a month hosting / maintenance fee.

I don't just want to go out and get into something over my head and possibly not be able to deliver. I don't know a lot about flash or shockwave. I am not talking about doing big business sites. I am talking about local business and maybe some jobs from the web from people who want a site but don't have a clue.

I don't want to promote their sites but I could probably do a little keyword research and on site SEO as I am building the site.

1. I need a little advice from you guys and girls on do you think this could work and turn into a full time gig?

2. How should I market it besides going to businesses and asking for the work? To be honest if I could do it totally or mostly on line that is how I would like to go.

3. How much should I charge for building the site and pages? How much should I charge if they want hosting on my reseller account? what other services can I offer?

4. How many jobs should I take on at once? I don't want to turn anyone away but I can only do so much especially if I have to get a full time job for a while.

5. I can do online pay with PayPal or online pay services and offline they can pay me directly or through these services if they want but I don't want to do a lot of work then have them blow me off so I think I need to get some kind of deposit. Do I make this non-refundable or if they change their mind give it back, if so how much.

I can see things happening like you get 2 or 3 days into it and have some nice stuff done for them and they start having second thought and back out. That is usually about money, but I can't let someone beat me to death on price either and I can't work 3 or4 days on a project and have them back out and not get anything for my time so how would I handle this?

This is a lot I know but I am serious about doing this if I think it will make me a good full time living within a reasonable amount of time or even a good side income if I can swing it with a full time job.

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated!

Scott

    Scott,

It is very possible to earn that much but in order to realistically do it with affiliate programs, you need to sell programs that can bank you high commissions. I am talking about commissions in the $100-$3,000.

You are not going to reach your goal if you are going to sell programs that bank you $10-$30 commissions.

I think that even if you are going to earn half of what your goal is, you will be OK.

I think affiliate marketing is a good place to start for any new marketer. I have never made anything off the web. I made a few sales years ago. I figured to get into affiliate marketing and start small and build it up from there as I learn more.

I need some income now or in the very near future that's why I was thinking about doing websites. Who knows that may turn into something so good that I don't even think about doing anything else.

Can you really design websites ? If yes make 2 or 3 of them to test your own talent .You can use them in your work portfolio .

You know very less about everything and not interested in going out .

Target your local market , try to sell them websites ,you must be able to tell them why they need website .

Affiliate marketing is a far thing if you do not have clear concept about it .don't give it try unless you have enough knowledge or you will loose your hard earned money.

Hope it will help you, if you need any help feel free to contact me

You'll be wasting your time with affiliate marketing. Design websites for businesses
and companies. Build yourself a website showing your web design services.

    Scott,

What ever you choose to do, good luck to you.

Some things that you will do will not work and some will. You just have to see which actions bring you the best results.

    You said:

....but will be making $5000.00 a month by next week or next month.
    Then..

I have never made anything off the web. I made a few sales years ago.
I am confused! My first impression was you were almost there, making nearly 5k, then it seems you are totally new to IM.

Anyway, to be a professional offering services like web design, you should be really good at it. Also, web design is a creative work, it is not hard but you need to have the talent. If you believe you are good enough, as already suggested, create couple of sample sites for your friends and start looking for clients.

I won't recommend you going online for getting business. You will be competing with professionals from countries where 2$/hr is acceptable rate. Check Elance or any similar site, you will realize how competitive the market place is.

Reseller hosting is too much efforts for too little pay, unless you have other options to monitize the client. Like, you offer hosting and maintenance package at a reasonable rate and you will have the customer tied up with you forever. You may get redesign work in the future as well. That is the only way you can make money, you simply can't compete with hosts offering $6/mo and offer customer support as well.

Affiliate marketing ofcourse could make you a lot of money, but you could end up making nothing as well. So while you learn, grow slowly, you need another guaranteed source of income to keep going.
