Hi Everyone,

Let me start by saying, Boy am I glad I found this forum! Lot's of good info and ideas here that have already helped me start my business Now to my question.

I am trying to gain client's by sending emails out to companies I have found off GROUPON, YELP and others offering my services to convert their full desktop site to mobile. I'm only a month into this and have sent out about 35 emails but not getting any responses. Any ideas on how I can get someone to actually respond or do you think I'm wasting time and walking into these business asking to speak with the owner would get me better results? How do you get clients? Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Thanks!

Angel

  • Depending on the type of email you are sending, 35 emails isn't enough.

Would you mind posting what your email looks like? Or at least a basic outline if you don't want to give anything specific away?

    • My GF helped me create this - The first one I was sending out was horrible lol!

      Hello (company name),

I am reaching out to local businesses, such as yours, to offer a service that will add more value to your business by adding mobile compatibility to your existing website. When I visited your site (www.companieswebsite.com) from my mobile phone the text was very small and it was not easy for me to locate your phone number, address and other important content that could affect consumers from spending their money at your business. What I want to offer you is a mobile version of your site that would make it easier for your customers to contact, locate and easily view all your services from their mobile phones or devices.

In the following link you can view a mockup of what your new mobile site could look like. What we will do is create a mobile website from existing content from your webpage. We will work with YOU to customize your mobile site to your liking if you choose to go with our services. Anything we create will not change your main webpage.

  • Emailing in small numbers is not effective. Did you know the average response rate to a cold email list is under .1%? 35 is nowhere near enough, add three 0's behind it and that would be a good list to start with.
  • I used to do a lot of emailing back in the day.

Here's a quick list of things that I noticed got me the best response rate:

    - keep the email very brief
    - mention one or two top competitors in the subject so the open rate is higher
    - mention those same competitors in email itself
    - use a short, point-form list of the things the competitor is doing that you know how to improve upon
    - mention you've emailed a few others in that same line of work and you'll only work with one, so it's first come first served.

Here's a sample of what I used to send:

subject: "re: a quick note about Competitor 1 and Competitor 2"

    Hello (Business Owner's name),

My name is John and I just wanted to give you a quick look at what Competitor 1 and Competitor 2 are doing online so they are in the top spots of Google maps:

    - Competitor 1 and 2 have about 150 special mentions of their business online, while you have only 40.
    - Competitor 1 and 2 are mentioned by better 3rd party websites than your own, so their sites appear more trustworthy.

Now, fortunately for you it's only a matter of proper planning to catch up in these areas; further, they are missing out on some really important things Google has asked for in their guidelines - things that will make it much easier for you to do better than Competitor 1 and 2.

To date, I've helped over 100 businesses catch up in areas where they have fallen behind and to excel in the more complicated things that Google requests from all business owners.

To be fair, I have also approached a few others that operate businesses similar to your own, and to avoid a conflict of interest, I only work with one.

If you'd like to discuss details of how you can do better than Competitor 1 and 2, let me know.

I'm available between 10am and 5pm during the week. If I'm not able to pick up, leave a message and I'll call right back.

    Regards,
    John

That's pretty much all I did and I got a great response.

    Hope that helps.

    • Awesome! I appreciate all the responses and will incorporate Kung Fu Backlinks email suggestions ASAP - Next I will go into these businesses and try to speak with them face to face - Gotta get my presentation down to perfection

  • If you emailed 35 places and have gotten 0 results, maybe it is time that you change things up.

Instead of emailing them, why not call them or even send them a note through the mail.

Most companies have a security feature in place where very limited amount of associates can email them.

    • A Mailer is something I will definitely be getting into - The client list I have are mostly small business client's with one shop or cafe so I figured they would be checking email daily but your right, mine might be going straight to spam =/ - Anyone know of a good way to send a mass email to client's? I'm using Zoho CRM and they charge for that monthly, I really do not want to pay for being able to do this

      Thanks

  • I agree with talfighel: in the time you spent email list building and send of the 35 emails, you could have looked them up on manta.com, got the dm name and called them. With the right start to the call you more than likely would have had a better result, at minimum you would have had a couple of real conversatioms that would give you a better chance than nothing at all from email alone.

Look up posts from Jason Kanigan or purchase his products. Well worth it.

  • Start cold calling, it will give you quicker results and it is still one of the best weapons for growing your business quickly. The phone is what helped my company grow fast in a matter of weeks.

  • First of all make sure you have a really catchy title! Make sure they see your email and want to open it. Another great way to get people to respond to your emails would be to add something fun, like video, to your email. It proves to really convert very well. Hope this helps!
