Easiest $100 I ever made, I officially love SEO!

I get an email an hour ago from an SEO guy who says a competitor of his client is generating spam links and one of them is a user on my forum.

Says he'll pay me $100 paypal to remove it and links the user.

A bot registered a username and put his website on his "about me" page has the SEO guys client site.

I removed the link and he paypal'd me instantly.

So if someone makes a WSO instructing you to create shifty looking usernames on your forum and link it to other people's sites, then charge $100 to have the link removed, you heard it here first!

Hmmm sounds like doing that would be like gangsters charging "protection" money.

Wasn't there a WSO out about creating loads of poor reviews for businesses, contacting them about those reviews and charging a clean up fee?

I hope we don't see a WSO like that again.

Are you confusing a WSO with Yelp's official business model (at least, until they got caught)?

I'm always getting offers for "bad link cleanup" to my ranking sites. Thanks for giving me the inside-scoop, hah.

I was joking about the WSO thing, I hope it wasn't taken seriously. Being that it actually happened to me just now, the first thing I thought was that it fits the content of a sleazy product stereotype.

You disavow a list of links that you submit, not all of your links.

That's cray, massive waste of cash, I wonder how much this guy has spent having shitty links removed, when Google will just ignore them for free.

Bob, I knew you were kidding, mate lol.

And didn't realize that was Yelp's business model =\ can't say I'm surprised, though.

I was a little in shock and wondering if this was some kind of con, but it was legit, he thanked me and paid me immediately.

I don't even understand what the damage would have been from this link. The SEO client is an online gambling site. So some bot on my forum who has no ability to even post anything has his clients website in his profile and that's bothering him bad enough to spend $100?

Can someone tell me why this even makes sense.

enough spam links and you can negative SEO on a competitor... if it was for online gambling, I'm sure they have the money to spend since most of those SEO campaigns run between $10,000-50,000/mo. Maybe things are going so well that they didn't want to risk a disavow.
