We seem to have a lifestyle nobody understands?

I find this very interesting and at times a little bit of a pain but of course I would not trade it for the world.

Wife and I are both 46. Had kids young so all out of the house now.
I have been full time IM working remotely for many years.
Over the past two years thanks to things coming together and kids being old enough we aggressively jumped into enjoying our lifestyle of work from anywhere we want because we can.

Some of the interesting problems we have run into and that I can see coming.

1. We are NOT rich but we do have a lifestyle of the rich in so far as our time being ours yet it seems 99% of the people we have met with time on their hands are 55+ and retired and though we enjoy anyone's company regardless of age there is still a disconnect in things we can/want to do over those we have made friends with. Maybe its because we live in quiet Canada :-)

2. It's sinking in we can truly be anywhere but several days researching manufactured homes in Florida or condo's in Jamaica/Mexico again lead us to mostly 55+ parks etc... with the reality that the average age is MUCH higher. Is it time for a warrior forum or internet marketers park/property? :-)

3. My business confuses the hell out of accountants/lawyers/government. Though you can muddle through it seems there is a real lack of solid advice or best practice for someone that can form any type of company anywhere they like, hires people from anywhere to work remotely and can have clients in any geography. I often wonder about better alternatives from a tax point of view and really have not found any great sources to turn to. Yes there are tons of accountants/lawyers in my back yard but the do NOT have many clients in a similar situation.

I won't even get into the weird looks/attitudes you get from extended family or people you meet when they try and figure out what you do. You can tell some of them just figure you must deal drugs lol

The closest frustrated group I have found to us (and I bought a book on the subject as they have some similar issues/solutions) is full time RV'ers. Pretty much every state/province cannot handle the "I don't have a permanent address" answer so that causes them all kinds of issues and therefore clever workarounds are invented. I can see myself getting into similar situations because even though I will not RV I do plan on leading a rather nomadic life for the next 10 years.

I would be interested in hearing about similar issues fellow warriors have run into and any good sources they have found to deal with them.

Hey good thread, here in the UK, we have many schemes to help businesses employ graduates or new people into work, thing is the schemes all need the employer to have a base, an office etc where the trainee can be 3-5 days a week and learn in person from the business, they just don't get remote working arrangements, they expect the trainees to travel in 30+ miles both ways when they could work from home where all their own specialist equipment is etc . The rows I have had are crazy but they just wont budge, so to take these people on I have to get an office space at a cost to me, they have to travel in at a cost to them of money and time , of course it then isn't so beneficial so it doesn't happen.

In a few years time these schemes will catch up with the real world but yeh the business assistance places are still in the dark ages .

I think the reason your finding all these places with crowds 55+ is that your beginning to think like them. Florida? Mexico? Jamaica? Those are all the cliche retirement locations of many people in the US and Canada.

Get more creative with your destinations: Ireland, Netherlands, Sweden, Italy, etc... and you'll find more people along the way that are more accepting of nomadic lifestyles, because you'll meet people who are actively traveling. People settle with Florida to sit back, relax, and die haha.

Also seems like you're a little ashamed to tell people that you have "no permanent address." You should embrace the fact that you wouldn't have a permanent address. Find new friends and people that understand. Most people will never understand the nomadic lifestyle and those are the types of people who will try to guilt trip you about being selfish or living in a fantasy. In reality, many are just jealous of you being able to live anywhere. If you do start traveling to unique places on the world you'll meet a ton of people just like you just don't get hung up on going to the cliche places or all the "regular tourist spots."

I'm much younger than you, but hope to become location independent within the next 2 years because most people here in the US are simply "ok" with the status quo, never challenge authority, and are instantly scared of people who think differently.

    Good Luck!

As Virtual Based Entrepreneurs... we stand out from the crowd/masses. We're doing things a bit "untraditional" and it'll sometimes make people wonder exactly what we do...

I simply explain it... I work online... my business is internet based.

It can get quite lonely if you work from home on the computer... you really have to make an effort to leave and mingle... as you probably know.

So I work at times from Starbucks or local coffee shops.

The biggest thing is to just get around people like yourself... who cares about their age... many will be in their younger years.. but again who cares. Mingle with them, brainstorm and get even more ideas. But really, people that aren't like me, or do what I do, are fun to be around... It gets old real fast being around the same kind of people.

This post probably didn't really answer any of your questions/concerns... but just wanted to share my thoughts.
