We seem to have a lifestyle nobody understands?
Wife and I are both 46. Had kids young so all out of the house now.
I have been full time IM working remotely for many years.
Over the past two years thanks to things coming together and kids being old enough we aggressively jumped into enjoying our lifestyle of work from anywhere we want because we can.
Some of the interesting problems we have run into and that I can see coming.
1. We are NOT rich but we do have a lifestyle of the rich in so far as our time being ours yet it seems 99% of the people we have met with time on their hands are 55+ and retired and though we enjoy anyone's company regardless of age there is still a disconnect in things we can/want to do over those we have made friends with. Maybe its because we live in quiet Canada :-)
2. It's sinking in we can truly be anywhere but several days researching manufactured homes in Florida or condo's in Jamaica/Mexico again lead us to mostly 55+ parks etc... with the reality that the average age is MUCH higher. Is it time for a warrior forum or internet marketers park/property? :-)
3. My business confuses the hell out of accountants/lawyers/government. Though you can muddle through it seems there is a real lack of solid advice or best practice for someone that can form any type of company anywhere they like, hires people from anywhere to work remotely and can have clients in any geography. I often wonder about better alternatives from a tax point of view and really have not found any great sources to turn to. Yes there are tons of accountants/lawyers in my back yard but the do NOT have many clients in a similar situation.
I won't even get into the weird looks/attitudes you get from extended family or people you meet when they try and figure out what you do. You can tell some of them just figure you must deal drugs lol
The closest frustrated group I have found to us (and I bought a book on the subject as they have some similar issues/solutions) is full time RV'ers. Pretty much every state/province cannot handle the "I don't have a permanent address" answer so that causes them all kinds of issues and therefore clever workarounds are invented. I can see myself getting into similar situations because even though I will not RV I do plan on leading a rather nomadic life for the next 10 years.
I would be interested in hearing about similar issues fellow warriors have run into and any good sources they have found to deal with them.
