Methods used for those in the blue collar industry

So I'm trying to maybe start a familiar thread topic with a new, more friendly approach.

What are some of the methods, and processes that you guys have used to gather clients in the home renovation, building, construction, gutting, landscape, commercial, etc. business?

Industry: Granite Fab.
Methods failed: PPC, SEO.
Method Success: Cold-calling, door knocking, Flyers and Email Marketing (with a twist).

PPC and SEO seemed to eat away our money with the bulk of our client list being an older crowd or a group that work with trusted and referred contractors. Now, we use social media and review sites to build our reputation and credibility. Especially since handing out cards, flyers and networking prompts interested people to look online. One idea that seemed to be reasonable for us was including flyers that prompted our users to check out our videos! Don't look to put numbers, prices and buy now crap because people get turned off, especially by greasy scummy contractors. Be bold and TRANSPARENT. I coupled the networking (from interested people + their consent) to be included in my emailing database. I then sent them exclusive deals (not really exclusive but I worked out the wording to make it sound special) so that they had my name on their minds. I have more stuff I've tried that I can share later on.

So let me hear from those in the industry. Those experienced, starting out, and interested in the business of offline marketing. Share your stories. This is an open thread.

Please don't link to your WSO's no one's ever heard of either.

Luke

They have. As the OP indicated, ".familiar thread topic". There are a ton of threads available on this very subject. They are jammed packed full of useful, actionable information. No sense trying to repeat it all here.

All you have to do is use the search, then read.
