How To Sell, By Don Draper

I watched this on Youtube after I saw it on Mad Men, this past year. This is how you present yourself to get the deal.

The quick presentation is in the second half of the video. It's worth the wait.

    Don Draper is THE MAN!!

Great selling lesson...when meeting with the #1 market leader, be very aggressive. It sends a clear message...hire me to be on your side or I'll help your competitor grind you into the dust.

That would be a gutsy cold approach (I know this one wasn't cold) , "I been looking at your business and I think you're in desperate need of change" , then just keep quiet and see what the reaction is . It's powerful even if its in written form .
Of course in acting they always get the expected reply as its all scripted, in real life the prospect could have thrown him a curve ball but you'd already be powerfully positioned from the opening gambit.

I wish that show had more of this. Of the episodes I watched it was more of a soap opera set in the 50s.

The show takes place in the 1960s.

And it is, after all, dramatic story-telling, not a documentary about ad agencies.

Yup. But the main reason I watch it is for the few minutes of work that we see on the show. I love seeing pitches, managing the staff, and Don Draper being his smoking and drinking self.

Sure, I love that stuff, too.

But if that's all it were about, it wouldn't be nearly as compelling.

Right up there with Breaking Bad and The Wire for best show.

One of the best shows on TV.

This clip reminds me of pro athletes... they're not happy making
$15 million a year if another player just signed for $20 million.

A lot of business is always trying to beat the competition.

I once was hired to help a fitness marketer... simply because
I reminded him that he was making $150,000 a year while most of his
competitors were making a million or more.

We all want more than we have... it just is what it is...

confidence and conviction (but not a pushy arrogant know it all) in your product/svc is paramount. Prospects pick up on your vibe quickly. How you say something is probably much more important than what you say(obviously not saying stupid crap).
