Postcard Copy - Write Your Own or Hire a Professional?

I'm gearing up to do my 1st B2B postcard campaign. It's going to be a 1,000 piece test drop and I'm leaning towards your basic goldenrod/canary 4 X 6 postcard with no graphics.


For those of you who have experience with postcards, what has your experience been writing the copy yourself vs hiring a professional?

    I design and write my own copy for real estate postcards. It's all about testing and constantly learning about copy and design to get maximum response and ROI.

    If you don't know anything about designing or writing copy then you need to pick up some books or hire a professional.

    I learned how to write copy.

    But before you ever get to writing, you have to know what strategy you'll use.

    A great copywriter will create that strategy for you.
    That's what makes them great.

      Mr Me is correct about having the right strategy nailed first.

      And it falls into these 3 groups...

      1 Who are the ideal prospects
      2 Where to find them
      3 what to say to them

      There needs to be serious thinking about
      those 3 and starting from number 1.

    Honestly if you have to ask you should hire a professional. You can learn as you go and do it yourself but hiring a professional and learning from what they do will put you light years ahead.

    Do a split test. Mail 500 postcard with only text and 500 that look like a conventional postcard. One side with an appealing picture and on the other side the text. See what works best.

    To answer your question it's much easier to hire a professional.

    I would ask Ewen or Bob.

    If you want to have a go yourself there are some vital elements that should go into the copy.

    Enclosed is my "Secret Formula" that helps get a good response.
