Fair price for managing Adwords campaign

What would be a fair price to charge say a plumber to setup and maintain his Adwords campaign? I assume you would charge a setup fee and a monthly fee correct?

Ps. I know how do do Adwords, I do it for my part time day job. I have just never done it for client before.

    It depends on you and your client.
    Some people don't charge a setup fee, some do.
    Some people charge a percentage of ad spend, some people charge a flat monthly fee.
    Some people are freakin fantastic when it comes to adwords, some people suck.

    I know this is vauge, but the answer is... it depends on your and your client.
    What I charge is directly proportiante to the value I provide.

    If hes a local plumber than charge him £150 setup and then £50 maintenance. Charge whatever you think he will pay but provide value. Simple really.

      Don't listen to that, that is waaaaaaay too low, might as well give your service away, what the heck?

      I would include the set up fee in the first months fee, so for example; $750 first month then $500/month going forward. It really depends on the client and what you think you can get out of them in my opinion.

      this is what I charge - but free setup.

      If they got over £500 spend, then I charge 10% of the monthly fee.

    Some would say it's best to have equal fees across the board, others would say that you should charge what they can afford.
    I say do you want a day job or do you want a business that pumps out cash?

    As long as you are providing them with value, then charge them what they need to be charged.
    How much that is, you'll need to decide for yourself.

      Unless you have to have the money, I don't charge less than $1000 for management of their campaign. If you are going to truly manage it properly it's going to take more time than you think. If you are going to set and maybe check in once a week then the lower fee may be fine.

      Think about it this way.... if you are going to truly manage it on daily basis, adjust bids, keyword research, split test A/B ads and make adjustments as needed.. how much time that would take. You can take that time and find additional clients. Why go after the clients with basically no money, when you can do a little work and find others who will pay what your services are worth.

      What would it cost them to hire someone without your knowledge or skill? Don't you value your knowledge and experience?

        I use the 20/80 rule in PPC pricing. Roughly 20% of budget should go to management to assure that the 80% isn't wasted away. If they only want to spend $500/mo then they shouldn't be bidding on too much to begin with and you should be able to keep maintenance to a minimum, but of course the real money is to be made with clients that have $5000+/mo to spend...

        This is sound! ...It takes a lot more than expected!

    My opinion on this is it should be based on the time you will spend on it.

    Figure your professional hourly rate (this isn't $20/hr normally closer to $100 or more) and times that by the hours you will put into it each month and that is your number.

    I'd say the minimum would be $500 for most adword providers.

    Charge should be based off of the clients monthly budget for ad spend.

    If you charge to much the ROI goes down and as such the client can't justify spending the money with you.

    Typically I charge about 20-25% of the monthly ad spend and I don't take any one with less then 1000k per month budgeted.

      Yeah a small set up fee so we can hook our adwords mcc account to their adwords account.

      Personally I would as setup takes more time. And I think most businesses know and expect a setup fee.

    I haven't delved into adwords much, so I don't know. Do you use Adwords coupons?

      If you are friendly with Google then they will give you incentives to sign up new clients - current deal is something like spend £150 in first 30 days and get £150 of free clicks.

      I have been running adwords management for 7 years and have MCC (my client centre) set up. I get phone numbers for my account managers at Google if I have any problems... I always like to tell them when I get a new client on board so that I can make sure I meet the minimum spend and get them a free credit.
