How to get immediate credibility in a cold call

I just thought i would post this tip to people selling over the phone or trying to make appointments. I was a highly successful advertising sales person who closed deals on the phone and my friends from that time have all built successful businesses using this same principle. You build your credibility in advance before you even get on the phone, because otherwise people won't listen. What you do is get a well known organisation involved, eg, the local chamber of commerc, or a local charity, or a well known person in their field. When you call you say, hello mr. I'm calling on behalf of, or we are doing a project with (name or organisation). This immediately gets their attention and they will listen.

We would never just get on the phone cold trying to sell anything unless we had names we could lead with that would break the trust barrier.

Thanks for the post and the tip Linda but it's important to be truthful as well. When you say on behalf of you better make sure that's the truth otherwise it's a lie. Lies always have a way to come back and bite.

Thanks for the reply, however if you do it right you could well be calling on behalf of, a friend of mine works with leading international chambers of commerce and he creates videos using their brand. Of course it would be silly to tell outright lies!

Yes it would be silly but here on the forums we really need to be careful as some people don't have scruples about omitting the fact that they really aren't calling on behalf of anything but their wallets.

So are you referring to me, or some one else? Personal attacks are against the forum rules. Just saying.
