How to "dominate" Google, not just rank a site

A bud of mine has been complaining about 2 negative news articles on local/regional sites that rank under his name and are hurting his job opportunities and business.

He used a top brand name reputation management firm (you all know the name) last year but they haven't done anything to help, he's still complaining. They had him buy dozens of domains in his line of work and put up spamy profile type sites that yeah some rank but after seeing 4 of them you get it's spam and I'd take them down if it was me.

So he's back to complaining to me because three prospects asked him about one of the negative articles last week because it still comes up no. 4 or 5 for his name.

While I know broadly what to do I'm not sure what works best today to drive traffic and ranking for his deeper pages (in his name site or biz site) and if we could do link wheels to bump up some of his press releases and articles?

He's big on linkedin but not the others and does not blog. He has 1-2 old award videos.

Is video (adding 5-10 videos under his name) and link wheels the way to go?

You mentioned that he's been "complaining" a few times. Is your bud even trustworthy and ethical in his business?

Seems like he's trying to face his problem indirectly (bump down the negative articles in the rankings).

Would contacting the authors of the articles help? Demanding that they be taken down would be counter-productive, but explaining his situation and demonstrating that he has corrected any past problems may convince the authors to edit or remove the articles.

If I were in that situation, I'd feel that going right to the source would get the best results.

Yes, very trust worthy and should have countered the 2 negs when they appeared. Longer and bigger story...he's high profile and at least of them are allegedly paid character attacks. He has plenty of good content to rank and dominate his name, just need some guidance on best methods that are working today.

      Thanks.

So if he used reputation.com he'd have paid $36,000 last year or whenever it was that he did it. Is it possible that he paid one month, and didn't continue with the contract? They're pretty successful, and if it's a local business, that's pretty easy to deal with.

iAMNameLess...it was about $7k for the year. They did alot of profiles on free sites and had him buy dozens of domains that they did mini duplicate sites with his profile. None of it has really helped to knock down the 2 negs, only now as you see these spamy sites you get the spam effect after looking at 3-4.

        Domain.com
        Facebook
        Google +
        Linkedin
        Twitter
        Pinterest
        Tumblr

Those properties should easily push it down to 8. Start optimizing a couple videos, and you have 1-2 videos on the SERPs knocking it down to page 2.

Its hard to explain what to do specifically... each page is different. If you want to boost a deeper page, you generally want 2 "Proper" meaning alt tagged inner site links going to the page. At least 1 good alt tagged image on the page, and you may have to manipulate the text a bit.

Once a page is ranked, I know I can at least generally look at where it is ranked, and know what needs to be done to boost it. But I have been doing it for more than a while.

Depending on how fast Google gets to the page, and displays the adjustments, you may have to go in again, and do more. Its a bit of a trial and error.

      Hope that Helps!

You could build out subdomains for the main site and have multiple spots. That may be something to look into. Maybe endorsements.domain.com. You don't want to 301 or forward it, you want it to be entirely separate and unique.

Definitely try ranking videos, make sure to write a good article for the description box as well.

I have the most simple solution for you. If those articles are appearing for the "x" keyword then write some good articles for and around the "x" keyword. Add a blog onto your website and keep on writing article around this keyword and interlink all these articles. Now promote these articles on social sites. These articles will outrank those articles for sure.
