Cold Calling - Caller ID

I call using Skype and have my 215 area code # show as the caller ID. I notice I get a much higher "answered" rate calling locally here in and around Philly, as I do when I call the West Coast or other areas, where the area code may be unfamiliar.
I was going to use Twilio and purchase #s local to the area I am dialing to display, but that would get expensive quickly.

Does anyone dial using an 888/800/877/whatever number as their caller ID when dialing nationally?

Thoughts? or suggestions?

  • When I dial with Skype I'd set a mobile number as the Caller ID. Note for where I'm from mobile numbers either start with 04x or 02x. Not sure what the differences are for US numbers

Also can't say for sure if this helped get past Gatekeepers or encouraged DMs to answer their phones. But I think it's more likely they'd expect an urgent customer calling them than me. If you block your number some gatekeepers and decision makers won't pick up at all.
