Just Do It...Start selling

Whenever I would work with people who want to get into offline marketing, I notice that most people are just so afraid to do something. Either they are too afraid to get on the phone or they are too scared to do something.

The biggest problem is not doing anything. You can read all you want on this forum....research all you want....find the right cold calling script all you want......but if you don't take real action, you will never land any offline clients...

This concept is important to remember for anything you do online or in any business.

You have to take action and get started. Just pick one strategy or anything, and stick to it. This is the key to making money online, offline, or any biz you may plan on getting into.

Make this your sign to just do it. Just take action. Just start doing something, anything that will lead you down the path of making more money.

    Well...

...OK I agree with your line of "Just pick one strategy...and stick to it."

But I have to speak the truth I know. People may not want to hear it, but I have to say it.

Many people start without any competency. They don't know how to fulfill a product or service effectively, but they've jumped in and started calling themselves an expert at whatever it is they say they do now.

You see them all the time, patting each other on the back saying, "Take Massive Action!!" in one thread, then asking "So how do I do this?" in another.

If you can't fulfill effectively, you shouldn't be in business.

As for fear, if they don't have the right expectations for selling, they'll go out there and get punched right in the nose.

That experiencing will turn them off for life.

Decision and action are directly related and very important.

    Analysis paralysis is deadly.

Shiny Object Syndrome will get you nowhere fast.

However, I recommend a person gets good at fulfilling something before they go out there and try selling it. Much of the confidence problem comes from not being sure they can do what they say they'll do.

And the "Take Massive Action!!" mantra has big pitfalls associated with it which newbies can't see. Maybe I'll write a post about that.

My opinion after 2-1/2 years of experience on this forum.

The very first time I decided to get into offline marketing and did cold calling, I used some of Jason's tips and it was a success. Even for a total newbie back then. Got a relatively decent number of appointments from the numbers called.

But guess what? I *chickened* from actually following through and meeting them in person to close the deal..... because I still wasn't confident enough in my ability to deliver a solid excellent service. I just never showed up at the agreed upon time.

It was one of the worst feelings.... but was also the motivation I used to turn things upside down. I couldn't have lived with myself if I didn't do something about it after that first experience.

      .

      Exactly!

I'm always wondering why the most asked question by supposed marketing consultants is "how do I get clients?" Isn't that what a marketing consultant should be good at?

I remember getting my first SEO client; all my fears were gone the minute I got him on the phone. Some little action unleashed some more action afterwards and the ball slowly started to roll.

I can only recommend one thing when it comes to start getting prospects and closing: Stop thinking about the money you will earn. Just focus on helping them with their issue and try to do your best. The money comes last, and trust me, it will come.

Yes, it is very exciting when that first client is landed. I can still remember that moment I got a client really interested.

It's all about taking real action, getting started, and just doing it. I do not recommend getting yourself out there when you don't have much experience.

It is good to have a good strategy in place, and when that is done, you can start contacting clients and start calling or emailing. All you need to get started is your willingness to try.

I agree. Stop focusing on money for a second. If a business is asking you questions, your goal should be to answer them with respect, and to also find more and more ways that will benefit them as much as you can.

When I work with clients, my main goal is to think, "does this business need what I'm selling? Am I going to help them in a way that will generate more revenue for their brand?"

It is all a numbers game in terms of how you approach the client. If you care about the business, they'll see that.

So true Jason. If people have zero skill, they need to get one. This usually means finding a company you can work with to learn the skill, and then springboarding out on your own.

If you are low quality or can't fulfill, you are in trouble.

The best thing for someone with zero experience is to sell for a company who they KNOW has a great product.

Exactly. I think that's another problem on its own. So many people don't do much, and all they do is struggle on landing clients and trying to sell a service they aren't capable of doing for a business owner.

I made this post, however, to target those who really know how to do something. You know, because there are so many offline marketers here who understand the meaning of selling, who know how to outsource, who know how to deliver whatever service they are offering, and yet they don't take the time to go out there and just do it. So that's another problem.

But I agree with you in terms of the taking action mantra because others don't understand that there are pitfalls and times when people take action...but the wrong action. Other newbies will just jump at the point of selling without any understanding on what they are doing. So I agree.

Too true! But remember taking action can also mean researching your market, and gaining the skills you need to succeed in it. That's where focusing on a single niche comes in. If you don't focus, you'll research and study everything and then you'll never actually start!

Agree with each of you guy.s procrastinating can stop us from going after what we want. I remember when I had to call a business. I was just too scared of doing it, but once I got it done and I took that chance, I realized there was nothing for me to be afraid of.

Experimentation is the key - find out what works and what doesnt; preferably, very quickly. It's amazing how you can deploy small amounts of money whilst you can learn a hell of a lot.

I think so many people are afraid of failure. There really is nothing to lose when it comes down to calling a business or contacting them. you don't lose anything if they turn you down. The worst they could do is say "no". They can scream in your ear on the phone all they want, but they can't do anything to you. Experiment! You've got nothing to lose.

I landed in Offline Marketing in 2008, just seemed to crazy out there to be a straight up affiliate marketing or CPA. Taking action it the biggest obstacle that many new marketers struggle with.
    Once you get 1 client...then you can get 2, 3, 4, 5+ !!!

Guys are you all living under a rock . We are acting as if we never seen a transaction in person. Look everyday I walk down Westheimer Dr. in Houston and everyday I find someone who needs something .
I don't even try I just go in with my head down mumbling asking for a business card and the DM finds a way to interact with me by saying something about needing to market and Bammm I hit them with my card and an appointment sometimes even a cold call close.

Get out the house and just walk to the closest strip mall ,bakery florist salon they all need something.

No wonder so many here...are failing.

      It's not their fault.

They did not possess your subtle but overpowering technique, which business owners find to be...absolutely irresistible.

But now...now that the secret is out, no doubt this exact method will become the hallmark of IM salespeople everywhere.

      Rejoice!

      And let the magic begin...

Another good discussion here which got me joining up to comment. Both views are right - sure you've got to get your stuff together, but you've got to get in the game! If you're worried you can't deliver, make up a client, practice getting them rankings or building a site or doing a questionnaire, whatever you're planning on doing.

Once you've proven to yourself you're capable of delivering, you might just find you have the confidence you need to dive in and start helping people ... and helping yourself along the way.

    You know what im thinking....

It might be a combination of fear and procrastination. for some people in the sales business, they could have everything lined up for them; the product, the website, the marketing employee's. but at the end of the day its all about getting the motivation to actually put in work and be consistent

99.9% of all these business owners fail to sell their product due to the fact that they just can't keep doing what they need to do

Even if you don't see results right away, your bound to see some results somewhere down the road

I agree, this concept can be applied to anything if you think about it.
A lot of times the doubts, should feel your motivation to explore and move outside of your comfort zone, so go for it!
