Web Design: Charge Monthly or One Time?

Just curious what is best for offline clients. Should I charge monthly or one time?

I am expanding my web design/web hosting company offline and am looking to get new business clients. I thought about charging $150 a month for web hosting, web design, and maintenance, but I am not sure businesses would be willing to pay a monthly fee that large.

    Hey Joe,

    If you believe that the quality of your work is worth $150/month from your clients, then I would say that it is a good idea to charge that. Not sure what you charge to build it, but $1,800 yearly isn't a bad price for maintaining a website.

    Some companies/services charge more than that with a one time fee, plus more for regular maintenance, so I don't think anything would be wrong with your prices.

    There isn't any website that doesn't need up keep and maintenance on a consistent basis. If you did SEO with your Web Design, then that would be another reason to contribute to why I think you should charge monthly.

    These are just my suggestions, but I hope this is helpful for you!

    You can charge $500 one time fee and then $50 or more per month.

    It depends on what you are after. If you wish to do the design once and not have to do any updates then go for the one time fee. If you do not mind being on call each month then you can charge the up front fee and then a monthly maintenance fee.

    I would also offer monthly hosting to them and gain your residual income there as well.
