OFFLINE MARKETING

I have read that this new update will greatly benefit business directories over local biz websites. Is this true?

For instance lets say i am a plumber in new york and currently my personal business website ranks on the 1st page of google for the search term new york plumber.

With the introduction of this new update my website could be replaced in favor of lots of business directories instead like yelp etc? Thus pushing me off the 1st page.

The directories aren't favored in local results, but the power of citations and directories have increased. 2 different issues right there, so if you're ranking in the local results, a yelp result isn't going to knock you out of the pack. Your question is one about organic vs. local, not really the pigeon update.

  There has been talk of directories getting more real estate but this whole update is a mess and is still in major flux, so I'd wait til it settles down to make any assumptions.
