Who knew being an accountant was the best thing for getting IM clients

So due to necessity I stopped working as an accountant and went in to doing IM for various local businesses. I had relative success and allowed me to work from home and have a very decent lifestyle. I was then approached by a friend of mine to partner in an accounting firm. Wanting to sharpen my skills I had spent so long studying for I took him up on the offer.

Well now off line marketing feels like shooting fish in a barrel as the accountant I have access to their budgets and have a level of trust few can match. Seeing the large sums people were spending on useless and outdated marketing and advertising I have been able to pick up quite a few clients and know the prices I could charge.

Obviously as Spiderman has taught us with greater power comes great responsibility
so I need to deliver or I could destroy my reputation however this I do quite easily especially if compared to the garbage some people out there do.

So if any of you have accountant friends or bookkeepers they may just be a great resource to help you get clients.

Nail on the head. My main focus for generating business is strategic alliances, and that between a marketing consultant and an accountant is one of the best I've found.

An accountant's job is to save the client money (if we oversimplify it), and a marketing consultant is there to save and make the clients money. It's a match made in heaven - and as you said... You know the clients' budgets, so that helps you to come up with a good price point.

    Keep it up.

accountants are a goldmine for Marketing. Also various consultants as well....

Anyone who regularly deals with many different businesses in fact.... A high end restaurant owner... probably has many wealthy people coming by...

Its all about a good name. If someone recommends you.... and you deliver... they get prestige which they want...

So deliver what you promise, make your clients happy, build strategic alliances (as mentioned above) and you will see a steady flow

  • I think it is really amazing how you're able to discover what their current budget is, and so now you don't have to worry about charging them too much or too low.
