Anybody have any success stories using business cards to promote your website/offer/etc? If so, how did you distribute your cards? Thank you.

Yes. I promoted an offline business using business cards to do so.

I distributed the cards through other (high traffic) local businesses.
It's the cheapest, fastest way that I know of to get thousands of business
cards into the hands of local consumers with money to spend.

Also allowed me to target the market very precisely.

Have you used flyers as well?

    Hey cborgrx

One really great way that I have gotten people contacting me for my services is by slipping one of my business cards in a card slot of a gas pump every time I get gas.

To many people, this can be the same as putting flyers on people's windshields, but when you have a TON of business cards laying around, this is one thing that I do to help me spread them out. If someone is interested, they'll hold onto it and contact me.

This is a method that has worked for me in the past, and I hope it helps you out!

This can actually be a very good method. I have actually watch people pull the card.. read it, and put it back. Then there are others that actually take the card. The difference? the ones that take it are interested!

I know I have asked btw!

        cborgrx,

So you have some cards sitting around I take it. You test plan sounded reasonable enough. ( train Station ) but I will assume you goose egged on the results. YOU TRIED... and that's one less method to getting it right!

The flip side of that MAY be that it might not be the delivery but the card itself!

I would look at approaching this VISUALLY, before even getting to the message you want along with the result.

Those people just got off a train from a full day they want to get home see their wife their kids eat dinner go out and find a date.. whatever it is... There is not a 1 single person in that parking lot getting in their car and taking their time.

They were getting in the car and saying "DAMN IT there is a card on my windshield." They had to get out of their car.. grab the card and you had exactly little to no seconds to convey your message. I will assume that your cards were all text filled on both sides.

WHAT IF... you had the words "IM SORRY" on one side of the card ( Big bold Yellow on a Black background ). they then grab the card and you just said "Im Sorry" for wasting your time.... would YOU read the other side?

This would be an example of what I would call effective advertising. It straight away drops all the negativity and gets the prospect to read your message. ( Kinda like an open rate )

At this point we all can agree that your traffic was not all to targeted per se... but at the very least it becomes effective. They will read your message. And as an advertiser what else could you ask for? Yeah I know conversions. But if they are not reading it... then they are not converting.

So what to do with the cards you have left... well don't let them sit there... Use the Gas Pump method. put a few on the counter at the corner store you visit. Post a few at any store that has a bulletin board. These are all places where people will have the TIME to read your message. they will take the card if they are interested in your offer, they will leave it for someone else if they are not.

Uh you work in a Pharmacy I am going to assume... do you have some stacked on the counter there?

        Hope that Helps!

I handed out cards at a high school reunion.
One was to a teacher and she put it on their notice board. I got a job proofing the entire school's reports for the year. Not bad for one business card.

Make sure your business cards are a nice quality and represent your brand/website well.

Use the same logos, colours, fonts etc. as your website.

Spend a week or so collecting every business card you see for inspiration and start evaluating them. I did this recently from the cards left at a local post office and it was a great insight and showed me how important colour and double sided cards were in my area. It amazed me how many were just plain black writing on one side of a card. One was even for a printing company that specialised in business cards, and so was shocking how they could represent their brand that poorly!

Order some free samples from Moo.com to get an idea on quality and design.

In terms of where to hand out business cards, the main thing is what are they for? And are they a local, national or global market?

Possible places include: shop counters, notice boards, giving extras to previous clients who were pleased with your service, putting them through letter boxes, stapling them to invoices or letters etc.

It all really depends on what they're promoting.

Business card are the way i connect with peoples, it`s a small gift but a gift anyway and New Marketing (read Seth Godin) show us that the gift is the key to create a relation.

I had single side business card for a long time but now i`m using 2 sides, the last one have my consulting business on the first side with MyOwnName.com and alll the connecting stuff and the other side have my business Directory web adress with the logo in big, that`s all. (Every local peoples want to be on directory for free..)

So it`s easy to create a relation with that as i was saying, i always have as much job as i want with them, i just have to go door to door and give them and bang a couples of jobs come in

    So first side have:

On top what i do, that`s important so they see it right away
    after my name
My tag line (Unique selling proposition)

    Phone Number in big
contact email smaller (most peoples don`t use it)
Web address In Big (a call to action is allways good, something like come to my site to ....)
A couples of social icons on the right so it brand me as the guy that is "IN"/Connected

A very nice picture behind it with maybe 30-40% brightness so it don`t make the stuff difficult to read

Text have to be enough big and clear so a 65 years guy can read it, VERY important...

I`m a bit an addict to design them, i LOVE business cards and grphics, colors, that`s so nice to give something you did yourself when peoples say "WOW"

There`s you go, now just go in and say Hey, there`s my card, I do x y z, maybe i could help you...

The amazing thing is, if you'll walk in enough doors, this will happen. You will make sales, just because you asked...and they wanted what you are offering...today.

You'll also find that you have virtually no competition.

I learn so much valuable information cold walking that I'd do it - even if there was no chance of a sale...but the darn sales happen anyway. Oh well...

This is my first post, but I will take a shot at it.

From my experience with business cards, it is best to goto local meet ups/networking events and just mingle with other potential clients, build a relationship/rapport with them and hand each business card out. You don't want to simply just waste your business card's by handing them out to anybody. When I speak to someone I pay attention to there body language and tone of voice; If I feel that they are not feeling it or not really that interested, i'll just cut it short and say "we'll it was nice meeting you" or "i gotta take this phone call sorry".

    - Networking events are ideal but a lot of times, there are a lot of time wasters or I like to say (TWA's - time waster airlines). When it's more personal such as a yacht party or social gathering, sometimes that can be more effective.

Another marketable way to advertise your business card would be to give it to a colleague or someone that can work for you (offer them a percentage/cut if it gets converted to a potential sale).

Than you have the door to door technique via businesses (this is not easy but doable). A lot of rejection or you get a lot of (call this lady or this person is in charge and not in at the moment. The door to door technique is more of a numbers game.

It all depends on how you want to go about it but there's many different ways
