NEW SPIN ON MAGNET DIRECTORY PROFITS

Hey guys,

If you haven't read about advertising via refridgerator magnets, make sure you take a look at this thread first:
http://www.warriorforum.com/offline-...or-magnet.html

Anyway -- I was thinking I would create one, and donate 60% to charity to support cancer research. 1000 magnets for $197 -- an easy sell, and an even easier one when the majority is supporting a great cause.

Here's an example that I just quickly drew up:

What do you guys think?
Is this a good idea?

    I do believe the international color for "Cancer" is Orange. you may want to work that it.

    The lower line if it read something more to the effect "Support the below business so they may continue to support others" or something like that.

    I think you need to watch the line "These business have Made Financial Contributions..." Are you passing along a check in their name.. or just delivering in one lump sum. There is a difference

    Maybe try this.

      Yeah -- I'm really tired and the text/design was just a quick example mockup. I'm definitely going to roll with something more along these lines. Thanks!

          This would be more in line of what I would want to show a prospect. it uses the Canadian Cancer Society logo in the bottom right. Has THEIR URL on the bottom. ( you might want to put yours in there to ) Its the Societies colors. Its bright and cheery.
          Anyways.. that would be in line with what I would produce.
          Hope that Helps!

    Seems a little tacky to me, your riding of other people bad place in life to line your pockets / not sure but part of it does not ring my happy bells?

      Is it really that bad if 70% goes directly to the charity? Keep in mind the magnets aren't free either.

      My first campaign alone will garner THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS for charity -- Does that ring your "happy bells"? Thing about it -- Thousands are going to a great cause, and local businesses are being supported with new customers. It's a feel good win-win IMO.

        Now more than anything we are looking at design elements. The overall design of a piece like this has to meet 2 goals.

        #1 it has to visually appeal to YOUR prospects. Would they Could they Will they see that putting their name on that will look good? ( forget the value that's kind of a given )

        #2 The end user... WILL they keep it on their refrigerator and refer to it?

        Both of these are at the mercy of the visual appeal of the piece.

        When you look at a printed piece where do you look first? The top, correct? Be it this magnet, a newspaper, a web page, a school report. there is a headline that goes across the top, flowed by a by-line if there is one.

        Following that, there is usually the body or the information that is being provided.

        Closing things out, you usually find a closing or a quick overview of the information. and some type of contact info etc

        Right now.. your actual business listings are the quick overview. you need to let the MEAT of the piece sit in the middle. This is where people have been conditioned and psychological trained over years of schooling and education and reading and watching tv and looking at the internet EXPECT it to be. this is just something you do not fight.

        Another example using my layout. that is where I placed the www.cancer.ca link. akin to the same placement that a legal notice would be. an address or for further contact. again this is a trained location. and again you really should not try and fight it.

        How many print adds do you see with the phone number on the top? How many TV commercials do you see with the phone number on top? How many signs on the sides of buses do you see with the phone number on top? see what I mean? This is conditioned psychological stuff.

        Its these details that change a piece of advertising from exactly that, a piece of advertising - to a "Effective" piece of advertising.

        Hope that Helps!

          Hey Jon,

          I really like your concept of working with a cause to raise money with the magnets and I know it can work as I have done it with local groups in my area, but not to be negative you do need to have magnet that has a nice look and that will catch peoples attention and one that advertisers would be happy to put their name on, so with that said if you do decide to really run with this idea, I would be willing to help you design a catchy looking magnet, I would just need to know for sure what cause you are helping and how many advertisers you would like on your magnet and then I could help you create a nice looking mock up that you can show advertisers to participate and help said cause, so just let me know?

          All the best,

          Martin

            Hi Martin. You do a really good job by sharing out some of your methods.
            I would like to try this magnet advertising business too but I'm not sure where to start. Do you suggest that I should start with a big city instead of a little one?
            During the summer I live in a 40k people city but the rest of the year I'm in 1m one.
            Which kind of businesses did you see that were the most easy to use this kind of magnet advertising?(which one seemed to be the easier to involve?)
            Thank you in advance.

              Terminator,

              I think in your case in particular you would want to focus on the hotel market. So you would want to focus on what services the people staying in the hotel would want. As I recall there is a fellow Warrior that does something like this. I am drawing blank as to who it is, and cant seem to search it... I know its out there tho. I specifically remember the thread was more about a pizza joint,and the hotel idea was a throw in kind of thing.

              Hope that helps!

              Andrea,

              Thanks for the kind words!

              I personally like working in smaller towns or cities, but the idea will work no matter the size area you promote it.

              Service businesses are easiest to work with such as...

              * Computer Repair Shop
              * Plumber
              * Handy Man
              * Pizza Shop
              * Auto Repair Station
              * Hair Salon

              these are just a few I have success with over the years.

              To your success,

              Martin
